The Musikkollegium Winterthur’s Chief Conductor, Roberto González-Monjas, took the three last sympho­nies that Mozart composed – in rapid succession in the summer of 1788 – as the inspiration for this large-scale seasonal triptych. While the first symphony (No. 39) in E flat major has a slow introduction, the last (No. 41), known as the “Jupiter Symphony”, ends with a breath-taking finale, so that “beginning” and “ending” – yes, let’s say “becoming” and “transcending” – are integral to the artistic concept of this trilogy. The central G minor Symphony (No. 40) stands for “being”: for “be­ing in the centre.”

Hughes de Courson Now a unique French exemplar of what in the U.S. might be called classical/world music crossover, Hughes de Courson has consistently sought to broaden the scope of his musical abilities and activities over the course of his distinguished five-decade career. He spent his early childhood in Spain. While still in school, de Courson was writing songs with classmate Patrick Modiano, and some of them were later recorded by the durable French pop-rock vocalist Françoise Hardy. In 1973 de Courson and Gabriel Yacoub formed the group Malicorne, a folk-oriented act influenced by Steeleye Span and by the contemporaneous revival in the folk music of the ethnically Celtic French region of Brittany. Later de Courson formed his own label, Ballon Noir (Black Balloon), issuing discs by Dan Ar Bras, Kolinda, and others. In the 1980s he expanded his own composition endeavors, writing music primarily for modern dance presentations.

At the time of its release, Two Bit Monsters was perceived by critics who had caught up with John Hiatt on Slug Line as a less impressive follow-up to that record. In retrospect, it may be the better of the two albums, boasting an even more simplified musical approach and such notable songs (and future Rosanne Cash covers) as "Pink Bedroom" and "It Hasn't Happened Yet." Hiatt here was starting to emerge from the "new Elvis Costello" tag that had been affixed to him with Slug Line, but his reviewers, however well-meaning, seemed determined to keep him in that category.

Amanda Majeski is an American operatic soprano.Early life Amanda Majeski was born in Gurnee, Illinois, near Chicago. She studied ballet and learned how to play the piano and the cello as a child.Majeski attended Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, Illinois. She graduated from the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University and the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. She was trained further at the Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center, an artist-development program at the Lyric Opera of Chicago; the Merola Opera Program at the San Francisco Opera; the Gerdine Young Artist Program at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis; and the Steans Institute at the Ravinia Festival.
