Remastered by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound from the original analog tape. Recorded in 1976 with the legendary George Martin as producer (The Beatles), both reprise their magic from Beck's Blow By Blow with an awesome array of jazz-rock-funk fusion, which is often sited as one of this genres finest recordings. This time for the eight incredible tracks, Jeff brings back the great Max Middleton on keys and Richard Bailey on drums, as well as new additions and future mainstay keyboardist Jan Hammer and the power drums of Michael Narada Walden, plus bassist Wilbur Bascomb. With legendary tracks such as Charles Mingus's "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat," and Jan Hammer's "Blue Wind," Wired soon became a radio and retail staple which has truly endured and stood the test of time. Rightfully so, this album continues to inspire and influence a whole new generation of guitar players and music lovers worldwide.

In the work of American songwriter Tom Waits, swampy blues, Beat poetry, West Coast jazz, Tin Pan Alley, country, 1930s-era cabaret, and post-Civil War parlor songs meet neon-lit carnival music and the wheezing, clattering, experimental rhythms (often played by makeshift musical instruments from car radios to metal pipes and tin cans, hence his love of Edgard Varese and Harry Partch) form a keenly individual musical universe. It has often been imitated but never replicated.

This is a soul-stirring release performed by Pat Metheny and a plethora of friends, all great jazz musicians in their own right. Works II is a compilation of his finest work, spread out from the years 1976 to 1984. This guitarist/composer/bandleader became one of the leading names in the jazz genre during the '70s and '80s. This collection of beautifully written numbers reflects his character of good taste and the unique flavor of his graceful, even-flowing solos. Opening with "Unquity Road," Metheny is joined by the legendary Jaco Pastorius on bass and Bob Moses on drums. The soothing sweeping tones of his guitar blends in charmingly with Moses pulsating percussion and the rousing basslines of Pastorius.

This is the lost incarnation of Tony Williams Lifetime, formed to tour in support of his 1978 all-star release The Joy Of Flying. A band of young unknowns including guitarist Tod Carver and fretless bassist on-the-rise Bunny Brunel allow Williams' powerhouse grooves and solos to shine. The tunes here are from the LPs Ego (1971), Million Dollar Legs (1976) and The Joy of Flying (1978). The concert was performed live at the Thirteenth Annual Berkeley Jazz Festival, University of California, Berkeley Campus, CA on the 25th of May, 1979 and broadcast by KFAT-FM.

The original incarnation of the Mahavishnu Orchestra was extraordinarily successful. Their debut LP Inner Mounting Flame (1971), achieved crossover nirvana, climbing the Billboard Jazz chart before breaking into the top 100 on the rock chart. Performed a year later and just two months after the sessions for their second studio LP Birds Of Fire, this live appearance demonstrates that McLaughlin’s vision, notorious for its intensity, also encompassed profound dynamic shifts and melodic beauty. At their best McLaughlin, violinist Jerry Goodman, keyboard innovator Jan Hammer, bassist Rick Laird and powerhouse drummer Billy Cobham were untouchable as a live act. Unfortunately for them after two full-on years and 500 concerts the band imploded. Fortunately for us, one of the best of their best nights, live at Berkeley Community Theater, CA, on November 9th 1972 was broadcast by KFAT-FM radio.

Banquet is the fourth album by German progressive rock band Lucifer's Friend, released in 1974. By this time there was no hard rock sound, it was now strictly progressive rock mixed with jazz fusion. The song "Our World Is a Rock 'n' Roll Band" was the opening track on some versions (i.e. the U.S. version) of the original LP release, but the only CD releases to date do not include this track, which can instead be found as a bonus track on the Repertoire Records CD release of their self-titled debut.

This five-disc set, contained in a cardboard sleeve that bundles standard jewel cases, consists of Lonnie Liston Smith & the Cosmic Echoes' four albums for Flying Dutchman – Astral Traveling (1973), Cosmic Funk (1974), Expansions (1974), and Visions of a New World (1975) – along with their first for RCA, Reflections of a Golden Dream (1976). Some of the albums were intermittently elusive, at least when it came to the CD format, throughout the years, so this was a convenient – and affordable – way to get them in one shot. However, it went out of print quickly after its 2009 release.

In 1974 Frank Zappa performed 122 concerts in 105 cities across 16 countries. Even for a man who spent most of his working life on the road it was a busy, perhaps his busiest, year. The group captured here is the much loved Roxy band with Napoleon Murphy Brock, Ruth Underwood, George Duke, Tom Fowler and Chester Thompson, but stripped for some unknown reason of its second drummer, Ralph Humphrey. The music presented is taken mainly from Zappa's two contemporaneous releases, Over-nite Sensation (1973) and Apostrophe (1974). Performed live at the Memorial Auditorium, Buffalo, N.Y. November 15th, 1974, orginally broadcast by WNEW-FM.

After Mwandishi, his early 70s experimental sextet, met with critical and commercial indifference, Herbie Hancock turned his gaze to Sly and the Family Stone and James Brown. The result was Headhunters, a new and tighter fusion of jazz and funk. Great tunes, high-precision grooves and vein melting solos. This appearance captures Herbie, Bennie Maupin and Anthony Jackson in full flight just after the release of their debut album, replacement drummer Mike Clark fitting in perfectly. Unless you frequent Los Angeles clubs like The Baked Potato and La Ve Lee, chances are you haven't heard of keyboardist David Garfield. But you've heard him. Appearing on over a hundred albums, Garfield has worked with artists like trumpeter Freddie Hubbard and guitarist Larry Carlton. He's a co-founder of Los Lobotomys and Karizma, two fusion-based jam bands that have included drummers like Vinnie Colaiuta and Simon Phillips, as well as guitarists Steve Lukather and the perennially-underrated Michael Landau. No recording dates are listed on The State of Things, but Garfield's clearly been working on it for years, given that a third of the tracks feature Carlos Vega—a versatile drummer who appeared on literally hundreds of albums before passing away tragically in 1998. This fusion-centric effort features many of LA's best session players, but in many ways it's as much Landau's disc as it is Garfield's. He pays tribute to Jimi Hendrix on a version of "If Six Was Nine that—as blasphemous as this may sound—might actually be an improvement on the original. While his tone says rock, his lines say jazz as he demonstrates complete facility navigating changes on the swinging version of Miles Davis' "Milestones and a more delicate mainstream take on John Coltrane's "Naima. He exhibits his more textural side on "Me and kicks things into extreme high gear on the greasy funk of "Five Storks and the more overtly rocking "Black Cadillac.

Featuring A-list guests like legendary jazz trumpet player Freddie Hubbard and versatile saxophonist Ernie Watts, "It's About Time" garnered 4 « stars from the All Music Guide recently and the same rating from Japan's top jazz magazine, Swing Journal, upon it's original release. This gem documents the debut recording of bassist/producer Brian Bromberg on acoustic bass, using the same 300-year old instrument he played while touring with jazz giant Stan Getz at age 19. Recorded in 1991 the project has been re-mixed and re-mastered, sounding as if it were made with today's sophisticated digital recording and mastering equipment.
