Highlights include The Times' smashing 1981 debut single, 'Red With Purple Flashes', their 1982 fan favourite, 'I Helped Patrick McGoohan Escape' inspired by cult TV series The Prisoner, the irresistible 1996 solo near-hit, 'The Mill Hill Self Hate Club' and the full 10:35 version of Love Corporation's 'Give Me Some Love' with stunning production by Andy Weatherall from 1991. Plus a previously unreleased gem for the anthology, 'Song To The Lighthouse', an out- take from his soundtrack to the 2010 Carol Morley film The Edge. The Whaam! Label set up by Edward Ball with the Television Personalities' Dan Treacy and Ball's own Artpop! Label were a direct inspiration for Alan McGee to set up Creation Records who signed Edward in 1988. Brit Pop era solo albums saw Edward joined by musical friends such as Ride's Andy Bell, Nick Heyward and members of The Boo Radleys while Ball's dance and world music influenced project Love Corporation were remixed by Andy Weatherall, Danny Rampling and Monkey Mafia. Ball also resurrected The Times and Teenage Filmstars monikers at Creation, under the former name Ball melded indie and dance music before Primal Scream's 'Screamadelica', while, with the latter, he embraced psychedelic noise.

With their ringing, bagpipe-like guitars and the anthemic songs of frontman Stuart Adamson, Scotland's Big Country emerged as one of the most distinctive and promising new rock bands of the early '80s, scoring a major hit with their debut album, The Crossing; though the group's critical and commercial fortunes dimmed in the years to follow, they nevertheless outlasted virtually all of their contemporaries, releasing new material into the next century.

Co-credited to the Void Pacific Choir - a name derived from a D.H. Lawrence quote - These Systems Are Failing is only slightly more collaborative than Moby's solitary ambient work, and its effect is the opposite of that. Fully energized and tightly concentrated, the producer's first studio album in three years is a concise and infrequently relenting set of songs that rail against those who have caused emotional and planetary harm. Moby revisits his punk and post-punk roots with a needling attack. Battering programmed drums, searing synthesizers, and torrents of rhythm guitar serve as prodding backdrops for his belting, often multi-tracked vocals. (The actual choir, a seven-member group including Moby, appears on two songs.) All the chanted choruses and seething verses over riotous rhythms evoke an apocalyptic glam-punk protest of sorts…

The post punk explosion of the late 1970’s/early 1980’s is regarded as one of the most exciting periods of music making explorations in Bristol. The period is now being revisited, seen as being even more relevant to do so as there is the 2020’s surge of new acts reviving and mining the seam of the genre. Fast forward nearly half a century (gulp!) from that first post punk period and the ever-active chroniclers of West Country musical history, Bristol Archive Records, have focussed on this heady epoch with ‘The Bristol Post Punk Explosion (1978-82)’ compilation release, out on vinyl and digital.

Caroline International have announced the reissue of Iggy Pop’s long-lost classic Zombie Birdhouse, which is due to be issued on 28 June 2019. A heady concoction of drones, Afrobeats and freeform lyrics, the album was Iggy’s 6th solo studio album and represents him at his freewheeling best. It will be released officially on vinyl and CD for the first time since the original Chris Stein produced release on Animal Records in 1982.

With producer Steve Lillywhite at the helm, Scotland's Big Country managed to deliver earnest, socially conscious arena anthems in a similar vein to U2 and the Alarm. The twist was their trademark bagpipe sound, achieved through the use of E-Bow. The unique sound of "In a Big Country" garnered the band considerable attention and a Top 20 single in the U.S. The Crossing, however, is an album whose richness goes beyond the single. The more subdued "Chance" is sparser and its personal lyrics are every bit as heartfelt as the more populist-inclined anthems like the wonderful "The Storm" or the thundering "Fields of Fire." The lyrics are straightforward and, despite the grand themes of many of the tracks, manage to steer clear of being overly pretentious. While this album earned the band a gold record, Big Country's sound and image (reinforced by the members' tartan checked shirts) resulted in them being tagged a novelty, and they never duplicated their initial success in America.

Bristol-based experimental psych-rock group My Octopus Mind are pleased to reveal their third studio album ‘Trying To Be Normal’, released today, November 3rd 2023, to vinyl via Drongo Records. My Octopus Mind are a high-energy experimental psych-rock four-piece comprised of drums, guitar, vocals and heavily effected double bass.
