What can one say about a singer who Ella Fitzgerald described as the best voice of all time? What Sarah does is miraculous. Some of the songs are a bit weak, but, she makes them better and the great songs, she absolutely soars. Her phrasing and incredible range (some say 3 octaves, but, it sounds more like 5)make this album worth every penny. Dreamsville, Slow Hot Wind, Mr. Lucky are the highlights. There will never be another female singer with a voice like Sarah. This album is a good reminder.

The album tells the chronological story of the early years of Elton (Captain Fantastic) and Bernie’s (the Brown Dirt Cowboy) musical careers in London as they struggled to break through.

The magical culture of Brazil has captured the hearts of many. Vocalist Camille Bertault began her love affair with Brazil in 2013, when she was awarded a grant from the City of Paris to collect Brazilian stories and legends to turn into a play. Bertault stayed in Brazil for three months, learning Portuguese and befriending many locals. Since then, she has returned every year to collaborate and perform with the great talent she met there. Bertault’s new Voz e Vocês is a gorgeous tribute to these joyous encounters and her love for Brazil.

With the story behind Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska set to be explored by the feature film Deliver Me From Nowhere, Nebraska ’82: Expanded Edition gathers revelatory unheard material from this prolific period including the fabled Electric Nebraska sessions with the E Street Band and solo home and studio recordings, joined by a 2025 remaster of the original album, plus a new performance film of all ten Nebraska songs played in sequence. Springsteen’s 1982 acoustic masterwork is augmented by 17 contemporary recordings (15 previously unreleased) that were part of the groundswell of inspiration that shaped Nebraska and share its haunting themes. Together, they expand our understanding of how this seminal album came to be and reflect the breadth of Springsteen’s creative intentions at a pivotal moment in his artistic development.

The striking cover image of an abandoned swing illuminated against a field of glittering stars makes a compelling visual metaphor for the music on Close. “Music is a twilight language,” Steve Tibbetts confirms. “The job is to translate some shadow into sound.” On his 11th ECM release the Minnesotan guitarist resumes the quest, slowly developing his yearning improvised melodies over layered loops and drones and darkly rumbling percussion. If the sound colours, including distorted electric guitar and sparkling 12 string acoustic, make this music of the west, its gradual, almost hypnotic unfolding continues to suggest eastern affinities. “I am still reaching for the evocative sound of Sultan Khan,” says Tibbetts, speaking of the late Indian sarangi master whose playing has long been among his major influences.

The first release from Quella Vecchia Locanda is one of the all time Italian prog greats. This excellent debut album has a strong PFM-like attitude with loads of violin and classical themes. Songs are delicate and exceptionally well performed with warm precision. Imagine great 70's sounding keyboard work layered with flute, violin and great guitar work and you have got QVL. The band draw on some pretty heavy classical interludes to build their music on. Along the way we are treated to many thematic mood swings and tempo changes. This album has many standout tracks which combine the classical underground 70's Italian sound with a solid blend of tranquility and beauty. Vocals are very expressive and are full of harmonic textures.
