The "Erotic Soul" album by the Larry Page Orchestra is a collection of instrumental tracks that blend elements of soul, funk, and orchestral music. Larry Page, known primarily as a music producer and manager, orchestrated this album to capture the essence of the sultry and sensual side of soul music. The album typically features lush string arrangements, smooth brass sections, and groovy rhythms, creating a seductive and laid-back atmosphere. While detailed track listings and specific release information might be less commonly found, the album's title and its association with Larry Page suggest a focus on evocative, soulful compositions designed to appeal to fans of instrumental and orchestral soul music from the 1970s and 1980s.

Although they never had much success in America, the Euro-disco group Boney M. were a European phenomenon during the '70s. After German record producer Frank Farian (born in 1942) recorded the single "Baby Do You Wanna Bump?" (which was successful in Holland and Belgium), he created Boney M. to support the song, bringing in four West Indian vocalists who had been working as session singers in Germany – Marcia Barrett (b. October 14, 1948, St. Catherines, Jamaica), Liz Mitchell (b. July 12, 1952, Clarendon, Jamaica), Maizie Williams (b. March 25, 1951, Monserrat, West Indies), and Bobby Farrell (b. October 6, 1949, Aruba, West Indies, d. December 30, 2010, St. Petersburg, Russia). "Daddy Cool" reached the U.K. Top Ten in February 1977, followed in April by a remake of Bobby Hebb's "Sunny." In July, "Ma Baker" just missed the U.K. number one spot, and "Belfast" hit the Top Ten in December. In 1978, Boney M. were at the height of their popularity with "Rivers of Babylon"/"Brown Girl in the Ring," which became the second-biggest selling single in U.K. chart history. "Rivers of Babylon" also was Boney M.'s only U.S. Top 40 hit. Boney M.'s album, Nightflight to Venus, also topped the U.K. charts. In October 1978, "Rasputin" became another U.K. Top Ten hit, followed by the seasonal chart-topper "Mary's Boy Child"/"Oh My Lord," which became the fifth-biggest selling single in U.K. history. In March 1979, "Painter Man" hit the U.K. Top Ten, followed in May by "Hooray! Hooray! It's a Holi-Holiday." In September, the album Oceans of Fantasy hit number one. Their music continues to sell well in Europe, with a compilation hitting the U.K. Top Ten in 1994. Farian went on to create the late-'80s dance sensation Milli Vanilli.

A disco and queer icon who was openly gay throughout his career, Sylvester possessed a supremely expressive high tenor voice unlike any other singer before or since him. He started recording in the early '70s with the rock-oriented Hot Band, releasing two albums before resurfacing later that decade as a solo R&B and disco artist. Recording for the Fantasy label, his singles regularly scaled the upper reaches of Billboard's club chart, truly breaking through with the ecstatic Top 40 crossover hits "Dance (Disco Heat)" and "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)," both of which drove the 1978 album Step II to a gold certification. Sylvester continued to blaze paths after Disco Demolition Night, most significantly teaming with producer Patrick Cowley in 1982 for the Top Five club hit "Do Ya Wanna Funk," an early Hi-NRG classic. Born Sylvester James, Jr. in Los Angeles' Watts neighborhood, Sylvester was introduced to music at an early age by his grandmother, Julia Morgan, who was a traveling jazz singer.

Originally released in 1985, Island Life compiles highlights from Grace Jones' 1977 debut through 1985’s Slave to the Rhythm. It’s a concise overview that features four Top Ten U.S. club hits (“I Need a Man,” “Do or Die,” “Pull Up to the Bumper,” “Slave to the Rhythm”), as well as an additional smattering of choice cuts from her late-‘70s collaborations with Tom Moulton and her stellar ‘80s work with Sly & Robbie. It’s a decent introduction for casual fans but lacks crucial material like “Warm Leatherette” and “Nipple to the Bottle.” A later edition, dubbed Island Life 2, adds "Pars," "Feel Up," and two remixes of "Sex Drive."

When the Jackson 5 hit the ground running with the undeniable classic "I Want You Back" as their debut single, they exploded into almost overnight worldwide popularity, immediately becoming the biggest act on the Motown label. Their hot streak of hits and immense renown would mutate upward more than it would really slow down, with Michael Jackson's solo career becoming one of the most commercially successful in the history of music. Things wouldn't be as bright for Tito, Jermaine, and the rest as they were for Michael, but in those early days, they were all in it together and working together constantly. Come and Get It: The Rare Pearls is both evidence to the staggering work ethic of the band and a picture of a young group on an electric creative roll, collecting almost three albums' worth of unreleased material from those early Motown days, circa 1969-1973.

The Jackson 5's exuberant and funky pop-soul hits made them one of the biggest pop phenomena of the early '70s, and as the Jacksons, they thrived well into the next decade with a record-breaking tour that enhanced their legacy of high-caliber showmanship. Launched to fame in 1970 with the consecutive number one pop hits "I Want You Back," "ABC," "The Love You Save," and "I'll Be There," the siblings were the last great group to come from Motown's hitmaking machine before Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder shifted the label's focus to more individual visions. A departure from the typically smooth and elegant Motown sound, their youthful music – combined with a merchandising juggernaut – inevitably got them tagged as a bubblegum group. They were far more talented than that genre label would suggest, especially with respect to lead singer Michael. Moreover, their material, while sunny and upbeat, didn't pander to its audience. When all but Jermaine moved from Motown to Epic in the mid-'70s, they gained creative control – though they had to change their name – and increased their number of Top Ten hits from eight to 11. The Jacksons scored one of the biggest disco-era hits with "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)" and appealed to rock audiences with the Mick Jagger collaboration "State of Shock." The latter hit coincided with the group's blockbuster Victory tour, after which the Jacksons, without Michael, would record one more studio album. Michael, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Randy (who had replaced Jermaine) last performed together in 2001, four years after they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and eight years before Michael's death. Jackie, Tito, and Marlon have continued to tour well into the 2020s with many of their performances in tribute to Michael.

Stevie Wonder is one of America's most beloved icons and an undeniable genius, not only of R&B, but of pop music in general. Blind practically since birth, Wonder created vibrant, colorful music bursting with life and ambition thanks to his keen sonic awareness. Almost everything he recorded bore the stamp of his sunny, cheerful positivity; even when he addressed serious topics like racism or social and spiritual issues (which he did quite often in his heyday) or sang about heartbreak and romantic uncertainty, there always seemed to be an underlying sense of optimism and hope.
In The Many Faces of Stevie Wonder, we'll explore both his early work (featuring collaborations with Marvin Gaye and Clarence Paul) and the vibrant soul and R&B scene from which he emerged triumphant, including songs by The Four Tops, The Temptations, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Otis Redding and others. With fantastic artwork and remastered sound, The Many Faces of Stevie Wonder is the latest addition to our Many Faces collection. The album will not be available on streaming platforms!
