From Behind reveals yet another facet of Cowley’s myriad influences; garage and soul. Born April 15, 1966, London, England. While she was taking her 0 level exams, well-endowed 16-year-old Samantha was discovered by SUN newspaper and promoted as a topless model. Her debut single in 1986, "Touch Me", was well received by critics, who praised her strong vocal performance. This thing hit number three on the charts. After this, she released "Do Ya, Do Ya (Wanna Please Me)" which also reached the UK TOP 10. Other songs that became hits in Britain were "Hold On Tight", "Nothing's Gonna Stop Me Now" and "I Surrender". To prove that former newspaper models can also be serious artists, Fox releases his singles on the US market. There she enjoyed even greater success with three hits in the TOP 10. In 1991, Samantha finished her first film, tentatively titled THE FINAL EMBRACE.

The Gap Band, centered around brothers Charlie, Ronnie, and Robert Wilson, toiled in obscurity for several years prior to becoming one of the most popular funk groups of the late '70s and 1980s. The Tulsa, Oklahoma natives produced 15 Top Ten R&B singles ranging from ferocious funk anthems to gorgeous slow jams. Many of their hits, such as "Burn Rubber (Why You Wanna Hurt Me)" and "You Dropped a Bomb on Me," featured instantly memorable, rippling synthesizer basslines. All of them featured Charlie's deep, invigorating lead vocals. While casual R&B fans and most critics associate the Gap Band with the early '80s, the Wilsons' run of hits spanned nearly 20 years, from 1977 through 1995.

Grace Jones' The Collection, released in 2004 by the Spectrum offshoot of Universal U.K., found enough room for a demo of "Ring of Fire" (a Johnny Cash cover) but decided not to include "Pull Up to the Bumper," one of the singer's biggest singles (if not the biggest). It's one of few flaws, but it is a massive flaw, and it makes the disc a wasted opportunity. Otherwise, the disc covers a lot of ground, despite cutting off at 1982 (so "Slave to the Rhythm" isn't here, either). There's plenty of Compass Point-era coverage, with her spectacular covers of the Normal's "Warm Leatherette," Roxy Music's "Love Is the Drug," and Joy Division's "She's Lost Control" present. The lack of chronological sense is another drawback.
