In the modern era, no single work embodies Spain in music more than the Concierto de Aranjuez, as Miles Davis effectively acknowledged by making his own version of it the centrepiece of his iconic Sketches of Spain album. However, Rodrigo wrote a good deal more for guitar than this ever-popular concerto. There are four more concertos, and over 20 solo works. The solo works span the entire breadth of his long career, from the Zarabanda lejana of 1926 to Dos pequenÞas fantasias (Two Little Fantasies of 1987.

There are densely layered textures that reach into prog rock, as in ‘Moondrawn (dreaming)’, or references to Brazilian rhythmic roots, as in ‘Marshmallow Tree’. Some tracks, such as ‘Anima Rising’, sound as if they were played not by a sextet but by an entire jazz orchestra, while others, such as ‘Time, And Other Thieves’, sound like a mixture of heavy indie beat and shimmering psychedelia, especially thanks to Gareth Lockrane's far-reaching flute.

Widespread Panic One of the many neo-hippie jam bands inheriting the road-warrior mantle left behind by the Grateful Dead, Widespread Panic established a devout grassroots following on the strength of constant touring and a loose, rootsy brand of Southern rock informed by jazz and blues textures. The group's origins date to 1982, when vocalist John Bell and guitarist Mike Houser first began playing together while attending college in Athens, Georgia. When bassist Dave Schools left academia to join the duo the next year, Widespread Panic were officially born. The band recorded its debut single, "Coconut Image," in 1986; drummer Todd Nance joined soon after, followed by the addition of percussionist Domingo "Sunny" Ortiz and finally keyboardist John "JoJo" Hermann.

A hot performance from the December 31, 1975 concert at the Cow Palace in San Francisco, recorded for FM broadcast on two CDs. Performed by the six members who produced "Amigos," which included the hit Japanese song "Sorrowful Europe," this lineup must hold a special place in the hearts of the Japanese, as these members visited Japan a short time after this performance. With Greg Walker on vocals and only five members in the instrumental lineup, the 80-minute set included some new songs from "Amigos. After the 1972 album "Caravanserai," Santana moved closer to jazz, but in 1975, Bill Graham, the promoter who had been pushing Santana when he was still unknown, became the band's manager. Although no album was released in 1975, Santana played a tremendous number of shows, and the show on December 31, 1975, the last day of the year, was the culmination of their explosive performance.Moreover, the band was at its most polished, as it was prior to the release of the "Amigos" album (1976), which took a more sophisticated Latin rock route. The band played mostly their best-known songs, as well as two new songs from "Amigos" that had not yet been released at this point. This is a work that those who like Santana as a rock band should not miss, and will enjoy the hot, hot performance.

When Norman Granz brought two major jazz stars into the recording studio for the first time together in 1956, the results were never going to be less than enjoyable. Sure enough, the three albums Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong recorded together proved to be highly popular and remain so to this day. Pulp were an English rock band formed in Sheffield in 1978.
