Slow Ride: Live in Concert gives us undistilled Foghat, recorded and filmed live over two months in Texas in 1999, shortly before frontman Dave Peverett’s premature death at the age of 56. The power and drive of these classic songs come ringing through and are a celebration of Foghat’s vision and talent, many years since the band exploded onto the world in 1970.

They're still touring relentlessly and performing with an energy that keeps a youthful spirit alive, no matter how old they may be. On "SONIC MOJO," founding member and drummer Roger Earl is joined by guitarist, engineer, and co-producer Bryan Bassett (known for Wild Cherry and Molly Hatchet), bassist Rodney O’Quinn (from Pat Travers Band), and on lead vocals and guitar, Scott Holt (associated with Buddy Guy).

6 albums and a host of singles from Foghat's tenure at Bearsville Records in the early 70s. You would be forgiven for assuming that Foghat were from the United States judging by the way that they ruled America's airwaves and filled America's arenas throughout the 1970s. In fact, they emerged from the same British blues boom of the late 60s that had given us Free, Fleetwood Mac and Ten Years After. Foghat formed in London in 1971 when Savoy Brown's "Lonesome" Dave Peverett on guitar and vocals, Tony Stevens on bass and drummer Roger Earl joined forces with Black Cat Bones' Rod Price on guitar. Kicking off with their Dave Edmunds-produced self-titled debut (CD1), 'Foghat' was snapped up by the fledging Bearsville Record label - home to Todd Rundgren and Sparks, among others - in 1972.

Recorded mostly in 1976, with bonus tracks taken from a 1974 concert, King Biscuit Flower Hour: In Concert is quite possibly the best live Foghat album on the market - it boasts better sound quality and lengthier jams than the somewhat abbreviated Foghat Live album from 1977, and it features the band during the prime years of their career, unlike the latter-day Road Cases. There's also a studio re-recording of "Leavin' Again" and a band interview padding out the disc, but the main emphasis is on the band's concert fireworks, and they deliver exactly what their fans want.

After building a solid core audience through relentless touring and a string of hard-rocking albums, Foghat finally hit the big time in 1975 with Fool for the City. It still stands out as the best album in the group's catalog because it matched their road-tested abilities as hard rockers to a consistent set of tunes that were both well-crafted and ambitious. The tone for the album is set by its title track: This hard-rocking gem not only pairs riff-driven verses with an effective shout-along chorus, but also throws in a few surprising moments where the guitars are taken out of the mix completely and Nick Jameson's bass is allowed to take the lead in a funky breakdown…
