VA - Lachlan Skipworth: Altiora Peto (2024)

Altiora Peto, Concerto for Trumpet and Strings was commissioned by Tony Lennon for the occasion of his 80th birthday. Altiora Peto was the Latin motto from the St. Louis Jesuit School Claremont (now John XXIII College) of which Tony is an alumnus. It means “I seek higher things” or simply “Aim high”. This performance and video recording were produced with the generous support of The Tony and Gwenyth Lennon Foundation. Recorded by Matthew Hiley in the Eugene Goossens Hall at the ABC Ultimo Centre in Sydney, Australia. Edited and mixed by Lee Buddle at Crank Recording, Perth, Western Australia.

Cavern, Quintet for Bass Recorder and String Quartet was commissioned for Genevieve Lacey and the Australian String Quartet with support from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries through the Government of Western Australia. Premiered 22nd May 2022 at the UKARIA Cultural Centre in Mt Barker, South Australia. The Australian String Quartet is Dale Barltrop, Francesca Hiew, Christopher Cartlidge, and Michael Dahlenburg. Recorded by Tom Henry and produced by Jakub Gaudasinski at the ABC Studios Adelaide, Australia. Additional mixing by Lee Buddle.

Mass for Easter Sunday was commissioned for Dr Joseph Nolan and the St George’s Cathedral Consort by the Cathedral Arts Foundation, and premiered during the Choral Eucharist on Easter Sunday 2023 celebrating Christ’s resurrection. Recorded at St George’s Cathedral, Perth by Lee Buddle. Edited and mixed by Lee Buddle at Crank Recording.

Concerto for Flute and Orchestra was commissioned for the West Australian Symphony Orchestra by Geoff Stearn. This world premiere performance by Andrew Nicholson and the West Australian Symphony Orchestra conducted by Asher Fisch was recorded live in concert by ABC Classic at the Perth Concert Hall on 22nd June 2024 by producer Gavin Fernie and engineer Richard Glover. Andrew Nicholson is a Global Ambassador for Trevor James Flutes, and plays on a Recital ST-3 Trevor James flute.
