Five Summer Stories is the 1972 soundtrack album by Honk. Five Summer Stories was a surf film directed by Greg MacGillivray. The album and the group is known for their song "Pipeline Sequence" which closes the album. Drummer Tris Imboden later became a member of the band Chicago. This CD was released in 2005.
Every place has its homegrown sound. Southern California is legendary for surf music, the ladies of the canyon, country-influenced rock as exemplified by the latter-day Byrds and the early Eagles, and great pop music. All those diverse elements came together, for a brief period, in a band called Honk.

Back in the day, they provided the soundtrack to what’s generally thought of as the premier Seventies surf film (Five Summer Stories), played as headliners at countless venues, had a #1 hit in Hawaii, and opened for the likes of Linda Ronstadt, Loggins & Messina, Jackson Browne, among others.

The soundtrack to Five Summer Stories, and the success it had throughout California and Hawaii, lead to the band being signed to 20th Century Records. There were hopes and dreams of success, but it was not meant to be.

If the group are to be remembered for anything, it is this soundtrack, more specifically the song they called "Pipeline Sequence". The title was a reference to the part of the film where surfer Gerry Lopez goes out to a surfing spot in Hawaii known affectionately as Pipeline. The sound of Tris Imboden's hi-hat in the introduction was anticipation of what was to come, and the cheering going on in the theater for the next four minutes is something that is very unique to the song and the film. Just as the Endless Summer soundtrack defined surfing, surf films, and surf music in the 1960's, "Pipeline Sequence" did that for the 1970's.
