This performance of the piano concerto is cherishable. It was not a work I knew when I bought this record but I fell in love with it quickly. It is by no means a second rank work - it belongs next to the wonderful Schumann piano concerto. At least that must be the conclusion of anyone listening to this magical performance.
I already had the coupled work in this performance - it, also, is very good - so my only quibble with this record is that it seems crazy to couple the piano concerto with a piece that Harnoncourt-Dvorak fans will already have. This said, this Dvorak piano concerto goes beyond the virtues that I associate with Harnoncourt's Dvorak - Aimard is the star and he brings a special magic to this work.~ amazon
This is a beautiful recording of a striking performance by Amsterdam's Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Dvorak's only piano concerto; a genuine wish-you-were-here type of experience! The Ballad or symphonic poem of "The Golden Spinning Wheel" is included as a "bonus-track." A must for Dvorak lovers - warmly recommended! ~ cduniverse
