"Countertenor Franco Fagioli, an exceptional singer with an even rarer modesty, was equal to the challenge of Handel's music in all its facets – the breakneck coloratura, which he is able to propel powerfully and effortlessly in the highest range, but also the profound melancholy of 'Scherza, infida,' for which he knows how to enshroud his voice in the hues of sorrow." This is what the periodical Opernwelt wrote in the spring of 2010 about the Argentinian countertenor Franco Fagioli, who sang the title role in Handel's "Ariodante" at the Badische Staatstheater in Karlsruhe. Born in 1981 in San Miguel de Tucumán, originally Fagioli studied piano at the music institute in his home town and then began studying voice at the Kunstakademie des Teatro Colón in Buenes Aires. Soon he decided to pursue an artistic path as a countertenor. The first prize which he won at the renowned Bertelsmann-Gesangswettbewerb, "Neue Stimmen" 2003 marked the beginning of his international career. Fagioli showed the entire breadth of his expressive possibilities on that CD entitled "Canzone e Cantate": from warm, cantabile mezzo-soprano to heart-rending, sighing passages through acrobatic coloratura art, he attains an extraordinary vocal spectrum. On this new CD he is accompanied by Luca Pianca, Marco Frezzato and Jörg Halubek, who are heard soloistically in the instrumental interludes.
