Wewantsounds continues its Middle East reissue series with Assa’d Khoury’s 1978 rarity, Electronic Touches Belly Dance. Reissued for the first time in nearly 50 years in partnership with Byblos Records founder Mozart Chahine, the album features Oriental classics reimagined through Khoury’s pioneering funky, electronic keyboards together with the monster breakbeat of cult track "Al Ghaba." This definitive edition includes original artwork, remastered audio, a new introduction by Ahmed Khalil (Dikraphone), and an exclusive interview with Chahine conducted by Mario Choueiry (IMA).

The vocalist, saxophonist, composer and arranger Bobby Boyd, arrived in New York at a young age after completing his schooling in Augusta, GA. His musical adventures began in the mid-60s with the release of his debut single “My Type Of Dancin’” on Veep Records in 1965, a fledgling R&B subsidiary label of United Artists. Encouraged by their positive impact on his career, he went on to release his second single “Whatcha ‘Gonna Do About It” on Bang Records in 1968.

"For me, funk is the quintessential dance music," explains Soulounge mastermind Bünger, referring to the title of the recording, which consists entirely of original compositions, "but at the same time, funk also has something innovative and liberating about it." The album's production reflects this, drawing inspiration from funk icons such as early Prince, Cameo, and Johnny Guitar Watson, without sacrificing any of its contemporary edge. “It was important to me that we played the album live together, without a click track or any computer editing. As human as possible, but still modern. Basically, the opposite of AI,” says Bünger about the collaboration of the Soulounge band, which consists of Markus Kuczewski on keyboards and Hammond organ, Tim Kirschke on bass, Tobias Held on drums, and Bünger on guitar.
