Øystein Wingaard Wolf (born 17 April 1958) is a Norwegian poet and author, living and working in Oslo.Since his debut in 1980 (Morderleken), he has published numerous books of poetry, as well as three music albums.

Jordsjø is a duo from Oslo, Norway inspired by old horror movies, German 70s synth music, Swedish prog, fantasy novels and Norwegian nature. After three cassette demos, the album “Jord” was what the band considers to be their first “proper” album.

After aging the past 24 years, Nils Henrik Asheim’s work “Salmenes bok” (“The Book of Psalms”) has now been released. The hour-long work was written for the dedication of Oslo Cathedral’s new Ryde & Berg organ in 1998. It features both organs in the cathedral (with Kåre Nordstoga on the choir organ and Asheim playing the main organ) to create a surround sound around the choir singing 21 texts from the biblical Psalms in a rich tonal language equally rich in contrast. The result is a unique listening experience, a magical fusing of voices and organ.

All the music on this CD has the countertenor as a common denominator. There is something beautifully unsettling about hearing a male singing in the register of a female singer. It throws us back to a, fortunately, bygone time when the same vocal properties were reached by the barbaric practice that produced the male “castrati”. Nowadays, male singers who wish to sing in this register develop their falsetto and head voice techniques in a natural way.

It happens only rarely that musicians working with improvisation at the sharp end of experimental practice are so attuned to contemporary style and taste that their work reaches beyond “the serious” or “the popular” to come out the other side sounding like a genuinely new form resonating on both levels simultaneously…

This disc is a delight - and produced with typical BIS thoroughness. Det Norske Solistkor (The Norwegian Soloists’ Choir) has been in existence since 1950, and Grete Pedersen is only its second director, having assumed that position in 1990. The 26 singers are all professionals, and they sound it. The solo and ensemble work heard on this disc is exemplary.

Tore Johansen (born 23 December 1977) is a Norwegian jazz trumpeter and the younger brother of drummer Roger Johansen. He has worked with Chick Corea, Karin Krog, Kenny Wheeler, Steve Swallow, Lars Jansson, Hal Galper, Siri Gellein, and Jan Gunnar Hoff.

Hüm invites the listener into a world where the European jazz tradition meets contemporary music. In the trio's musical expression, the Nordic jazz aesthetics collide with classically inspired textures, sometimes written in odd meters.
