"Catfood" and "Groon" Wessex studio sessions 3rd February 1970. This will form part of the previously unreleased recordings from the "In the Wake of Poseidon" studio sessions at Wessex Studios in early 1970. The recordings are presented exactly as they appear on the original multitracks, engineered by Robin Thompson, with consecutive takes on each reel running seamlessly. All the original studio sessions from 1970 are being made available by download in 2020 to satisfy recent changes to copyright laws: All recordings must be released within the fiftieth year of their recording in order to continue to enjoy copyright protection. So these have been released to the DGMLive faithful – and are thus protected!

Rhino released a really nicely packaged and wonderfully appointed version of Van Morrison: Moondance that I reviewed back in 2013, and they're distributing this new(ish) version officially from Warner Music Group, but this may be one of the easier "double dip" choices for fans even if this newest release doesn't offer the packaging or bonus content that older one offered. The allure here is a new Atmos mix, which is pretty formidable sounding, along with some other interesting mixes that weren't available on the first Blu- ray release, including (for those who might be interested) the instrumental accompaniments without vocals added.

In the mid-seventies, discotheques were booming in Tokyo and all over Japan. When the Fatback Band climbed the 1975 US and UK charts with their infectious “(Are You Ready) Do The Bus Stop” hit, Japanese label Victor put out the following year the first Japan made Disco tune with “Sexy Bus Stop”, released under the mysterious name Dr. Dragon & Oriental Express, a pseudonym for successful Japanese pop composer Kyohei Tsutsumi. “Sexy Bus Stop” became an instant hit in the country and, taking this opportunity, various Japanese record companies started releasing Disco music. From 1976 until the early 1980s the music was often recorded by skilled studio musicians, rather than by computer input, providing a really solid sound to the dancefloor. Disco music was also spreading into TV series, commercials and anime. From Godiego’s monster hit “The Birth Of The Odyssey - Monkey Magic” to Pink Parachute’s obscure (and excellent!) “Disco Great Tokyo” tune, this selection explores some of the finest Disco and Boogie music released on the legendary Nippon Columbia label in the late seventies and early eighties. The first show in the series, Apollo Theater, March 9, 2012, was released in November 2014; remarkably, 100 more have followed, expanding Springsteen's live recording canon into territory once exclusive to the Grateful Dead. Tours from 1975 on are represented in that 100, with many covered in depth. Frustratingly to all, a few gaps remain, limited by technical challenges (#freetherisingtour) and tape availability. But the Archive series is open-ended: new sources and playback breakthroughs remain ever possible..
