After Santana's earthquake-like debut at Woodstock in 1969, a wave of Latin rock rolled out of California, sweeping up everyone from Marvin Gaye to the Rolling Stones. Columbia soon relied on a visionary 16-piece orchestra led by former Santana drummer Thomas "Coke" Escovedo: Azteca.

Jazz pianist Lafayette Harris Jr presents 'All in Good Time', which promises to uphold the high standards set with his 2023 album 'Swingin' Up in Harlem'. That record earned some serious ink, with All About Jazz calling it "top-dollar… it simply does not get much better than this." Here, Lafayette's back in the Van Gelder Studio, this time with Jeremy Pelt, one of the most in-demand jazz trumpeters - voted Rising Star on trumpet for five straight years by both DownBeat and the Jazz Journalists Association, and praised for his melodic, post-bop approach that blends familiar elements with a cutting-edge musical vocabulary.

If You Believed In Me began with an unexpected offer: “If you ever need an orchestra…” Jesse Harris’s friend and arranger Maycon Ananias had extra recording time with an Estonian orchestra and invited Harris to send a song.

Old Knew is Gregory Groover, Jr’s follow-up to his 2024 Criss Cross debut, Lovabye (Criss 1419), on which – in the exalted company of Joel Ross, Aaron Parks, Vicente Archer and Marcus Gilmore – he projected his soulful, reflective tenor saxophone voice throughout an 11-track recital of, as Groover puts it, original “love songs and songs of people I love.”

Brandon Sanders returns to Savant Records, and his new recording is something to get excited about. After turning critics' heads with two previous recordings, Brandon is stepping it up with his new project that's all energy and heart. Part of the buzz comes from the stellar lineup. Joining the session is pianist Eric Scott Reed, certainly a name that carries serious weight in jazz today. Reed is one of those rare players who can make any ensemble shine, and his chemistry with Brandon is remarkable, to say the least.

This trio led by French cellist Vincent Courtois with its unusual instrumentation of cello, clarinet and tenor saxophone, has in its DNA all the elements of what touches us in West Coast Jazz. Chamber jazz where classical instruments such as the clarinet and the cello have a privileged place, which is not so common, but akin to Chico Hamilton's 1956 quintet with Fred Katz on cello and Buddy Colette on clarinet.

Trio X is one of Sweden’s foremost improvisational groups. The trio’s distinctive feature is exploratory and boundary-crossing music, and the experienced musicians find inspiration in many genres. Lennart Simonsson, Per V Johansson, and Joakim Ekberg started collaborating in 2002, and since then they have made several recordings, worked with numerouswell-known artists, and toured in Sweden and abroad.

When Goteborg Jazz Orchestra (GJO) - and the founders Mats Eklund and Johnny Olsson - laid out plans for the band's Monday night concerts for 2021 they came up with the concert series "Swedish Jazz Heroes", playing the music and telling the story of the role models who have shaped Swedish jazz of today. They came across the trombonist Eje Thelin and his last work, the suite Raggruppamento. The suite was firts performed and recorded live by the Radiojazz gruppen (RJG) in 1989 in the presence of Eje, but since he himself was too ill, he chose to let guitarist Goran Klinghagen play his feature parts and solos.

In an orchestra, the trumpet, at least until the beginning of the 20th century, is mainly being used to play some kind of fanfare, announcing glory, war or victory. It is safe to say that only in jazz this instrument has shown its full sonic and emotional potential. The muted trumpet of Miles Davis has nothing to do with triumph. But of course, jazz trumpet players can just as well use the techniques and styles of classically trained musicians. In a decent jazz orchestra, first trumpet and drummer always take the lead.

In jazz, we all know the harmonica master, Mr. "Baron" Toots Thielemans, but we are equaly fortunate to have our "Prince", Mauricio Einhorn. His early contributions in the 1950s to the birth of the Samba Jazz movement in Brazil played a pivotal role in the creation of Bossa Nova, a genre that quickly became an integral part of the jazz world. The influence of jazz on Brazilian music - exemplified by the great Carlos Lyra in "Influencia Do Jazz" - was so profound that local musicians embraced it to forge a new musical identity. Many of Einhorn´s compositions have become timeless standards performed worldwide since the early 1950s and ´60s.

Elixir was the third album from the Grammy-nominated smooth jazz supergroup comprised of pianist Bob James guitarist Lee Ritenour, bassist Nathan East, and drummer Harvey Mason. The follow-up to the band's gold-certified first two albums - 1991's Fourplay and 1993's Between The Sheets - 1995's star-studded Elixir featured vocal cameos from Phil Collins ('Why Can't It Wait Till Morning') together with Patti Austin and Peabo Bryson, who duetted on a fabulous remake of Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway's classic soul hit, 'The Closer I Get To You.' Other highlights include the instrumentals 'Play Lady Play,' 'Magic Carpet Ride', and the simmering title track, which all highlight the band's tasteful alchemy. Elixir has sold over 500,000 copies in the United States and was certified gold by the RIAA. The 30th anniversary edition of Elixir is newly remastered from the original tapes.

Friendships and musical ties that are born unpredictably and are woven through distance, allowed the fortuitous encounter of Tarabita Espiral. A trio made up of Colombian saxophonist and clarinetist Maria Valencia, Puerto Rican NY- based double bassist Brandon López and NY-based vibraphonist Matt Moran. These three vibrant artists eschew traditional roles to sculpt a musical landscape of restless motion and textural dissonance.
