Mozart’s Serenade No. 10 in B flat major, K. 361, also known as the “Gran Partita”, is one of his most important works for wind ensemble. It was written around 1781 (the exact date is not certain) and consists of seven movements, including the famous Adagio, which plays a central role in Peter Shaffer’s play Amadeus.

In the year marking the centenary of acclaimed Portuguese composer Carlos Paredes, guitarists and composers José Peixoto and Nuno Cintrão pay tribute to the immortal legacy of his music. Building on the references, inspirations, and complicity of their work as the duo Combinatorium, with whom they released the album Fragmentos Imaginários (2023), the musicians now set out to explore and reinvent the sound universe of the master of the Portuguese guitar on the album VISITA: Dialogues with Carlos Paredes (VISIT: Dialogues with Carlos Paredes), which will be released on October 10 by Galileo Music.

One of Saxony-Anhalt’s oldest and most tradition-rich orchestras presents a compelling combination of two major orchestral works on GENUIN, marking the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus’s relocation from Weimar to Dessau: the Anhaltische Philharmonie of the Bauhaus city Dessau, under its general music director Markus L. Frank, pairs Mussorgsky’s „Pictures at an Exhibition“ (in Ravel’s orchestration) with „Feininger Fractals“ by Eisenach-born composer Thomas Buchholz (b. 1961) – two orchestral works closely connected to visual art. The finely spun textures of Buchholz, who in this work engages with Bauhaus master Lyonel Feininger, and the endless colors of Mussorgsky/Ravel are in the best hands with this Dessau ensemble. Magnificent but not pompous, virtuosic yet full of meaning, the orchestra plays with intelligence and nuance under its chief conductor.

The Finnish guitarist Kalle Kalima met the double bassist Oliver Potratz and the drummer Oliver Steidle in Berlin in year 2000. These three have become companions on a musical journey that has lasted almost twenty-five years so far. They have defined their own sound and are solidly challenging the limits of the musical possibilities of the trio formation. The combination of Finnish roots and Berlin vibe results in original, wild, creative jazz music. Klima Kalima uses elements from rock, blues and folk to give their modern jazz sound a quirky accent.

This eleventh volume adds the three juvenile concertos which Mozart composed in 1771 - 72, all re-writes of keyboard sonatas by J.C. Bach. Bach had been something of a mentor to Mozart whilst he was living in London (1764 – 65) and these concertos not only draw on Bach’s thematic material, but are very much in the gallant style of which Bach was a leading proponent.
