AMARÉ is a musical tribute to the sea, to love, and to the ever-shifting tides of inspiration between Brazil and Europe. The title blends a maré (the tide) and amar é (to love is), capturing the album’s essence: movement, emotion, and surrender. Vocalist Céline Rudolph, pianist Henrique Gomide, and guitarist João Luís Nogueira come together in an intuitive dialogue where Brazilian rhythms and jazz improvisation meet in perfect flow.

Al Hibbler, a jazz vocalist who captivated generations of music lovers with his unique vocal style. He was the first black singer to have a radio program in Little Rock, Arkansas in the 1930s. Very popular in the 1940s and 1950s, Al Hibbler worked in pop music, in early R&B and on the fringes of jazz. His commanding voice was heard briefly with Jay McShann’s band, with which he had his first record date, and then during a notable spell with Duke Ellington’s orchestra beginning in 1943 and continuing through the rest of the decade, although the singer also performed as a solo artist.

Produced when pianist-composer Armen Donelian was not yet 30 years old, Stargazer—his debut recording as a leader—was released in 1981 on a small Japanese record label and only available elsewhere as a hard-to-find import. Until now, that is. On October 3, Donelian’s longtime label Sunnyside Records will reissue Stargazer, a stunning and remarkably assured trio date with bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Billy Hart, for the first time in nearly 45 years.
