Lucinda Williams, a celebrated singer-songwriter known for her powerful storytelling and emotional authenticity is set to release her 15th studio album titled "Stories from a Rock N Roll Heart" on June 30th.

Charlie Watts' Anthology' is an affectionate retrospective and a reflection of just how frequently Watts was able to exercise his jazz muscles between Rolling Stones commitments to create a bespoke discography of his own.

In giving shape to the fifth album, Degenerate, in the Phonographic market from June 9, the composer, pianist and guitarist from São Paulo Nichoal Abdo was inspired by the dark corners of the souls and works of erudite composers such as the Czech-Austrian Gustav Mahler (1860 – 1911) and Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887 – 1959), in addition to what he calls the “dark side” of the music of the American jazz pianist Brad Mehldau.

For Ted Rosenthal's second release on Venus, he dedicated the whole album to Helen Merrill — the exceptional singer who he has accompanied for more than ten years — by performing standars that are closely associated with her. The album starts with "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To", a track Merrill made her own on her album with Clifford Brown on trumpet and Quincy Jones as arranger. Rosenthal's smart arrangements and gorgeous, lyrical playing are complemented perfectly by George Mraz on bass and Al Foster on drums. The close interaction between the trio is astounding.

"It's The Girls" is Tony Award vocalist and Grammy Award winning actress Bette Midler's 25th studio album. The Warner Bros. record features Midler performing works by some of her favorite girl groups from the 50s, 60s and a few from more recent years, when girl groups really came into their own and put their stamp on pop music. There is no denying that what they gave to the world is still relevant, and still necessary; joy, attitude, and the golden dream of a youth that will never fade. It's The Girls includes titles originally performed by The Andrews Sisters, The Supremes, TLC, The Ronettes and many more.

Famous for her sultry voice, actor Julie London parlayed her movie fame into a successful career as a prolific recording artist, releasing some 30 albums between 1955 and 1969. "Julie Is Her Name, Volume 2" from 1958 was produced by her husband-to-be Bobby Troup and is packed with standards by Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, the Gershwins, Rodgers and Hart, Johnny Mercer and others.

When Red Garland released this in 1957 he was riding high as a member of Miles Davis’s "first great quintet," but the pianist was also starting to attract an audience with his own albums. This set, only his second as leader, is comprised entirely of standards plus an extended reading of Percy Mayfield’s R&B classic Please Send Me Someone To Love. Garland is accompanied here, as he often was on sessions of the era, by bassist and Miles Davis bandmate Paul Chambers and drummer Art Taylor, known later as the Red Garland Trio.

This is an obscure Alphonse Mouzon recording, which, along with Mind Transplant, accounts for Mouzon's best work as a solo artist. The presence of former Weather Report band mate Miroslav Vituous provides for much of the session's excitement ("The Light" being a standout). Fusion vets Philip Catherine, Stu Goldberg, and Joachim Kuhn also turn in fine performances, as does the relatively unknown Bob Malik. There is a great deal of integrity on this session, a quality that was often missing from Mouzon sessions both before and after this. Highly recommended.

Megadrummer and percussionist Alphonse Mouzon recorded Virtue, his lone date for Germany's MPS, in 1976, and the label issued it in 1977. As far as fusion records go, these were not particularly good years, but Virtue is an example of the very best of what electric jazz had to offer at the time. Mouzon was half of a pair of drummers who defined the fusion era – the other was Billy Cobham.
