DISCOVERY is bassist and composer Luke Sellick's latest release. An in-demand sideman for premier jazz artists Monty Alexander, Benny Golson, Russell Malone and others, here Sellick leads a group of his contemporaries and fellow Juilliard alumni through 7 new original compositions. Rooted in a classic jazz aesthetic, Sellick's writing touches on elements of folk/traditional music, as well as modal/modern jazz and soul. Although the playing and writing is adventurous, DISCOVERY remains readily accessible due to a melody-first sensibility and heartfelt emotional undercurrent throughout.
