"A definite musical voice" (Guitar International) and a player of "fluid lyricism" (Downbeat), Canadian guitarist and composer Alex Goodman moved to New York City in 2012 where he established himself as "among the most promising talents of [his] jazz generation" (JazzTimes), "one of New York's most vital young guitarists" (Jazziz), and "an important emerging voice on his instrument" (New York City Jazz Record). In 2014, he participated in the Montreux Jazz Festival International Guitar Competition, where he won first prize and the Public's Choice Award. He has contributed to and been featured on numerous Grammy-nominated recordings, as well as international CDs nominated for or awarded by the Canadian JUNOs and the German Jazz Prize.
In addition to releasing seven albums as a leader or co-leader, Goodman is featured as a side-person and soloist on recordings alongside such acclaimed jazz artists as John Patitucci, Dave Douglas, John Ellis, Jonathan Blake, Ambrose Akinmusire, Dick Oatts, Mike Rodriguez, and Rich Perry. He has toured extensively across Europe, Asia, and South America and performed at New York's top jazz clubs and venues. He has also performed at such festivals as Winter Jazz Fest in New York, the Montreux Jazz Festival, the Montreal Jazz Festival, and Jazz Baltica, as well as international venues like the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Auditório Ibirapuera in São Paulo, Chaoyang Theater in Beijing, Lincoln Center in New York, and Massey Hall in Toronto.
