The second solo album from the former Nazareth frontman is a good follow up to his first. Filled with great songs and sung with power and passion, this album is a must have for any McCafferty fan. This gritty vocalist gained early experience as a member of the Shadettes, a mid-60s beat group based in Dunfermline, Scotland. By 1968, the act had evolved into Nazareth, which grew from provincial origins into a leading international attraction. McCaffertyâs throaty rasp was an integral part of the unitâs best-known hits, notably âBroken Down Angelâ and âThis Flight Tonightâ (both 1973), but he undertook a concurrent solo project in 1975. Dan McCafferty comprised several of the artistâs favourite songs, including âOut Of Timeâ, which broached the UK Top 50 as a single. The singer then resumed his commitment to the parent group, but re-embarked on an independent career in 1987 with Into The Ring.
In the days before punk rock, Kursaal Flyers straddled the line separating pub rock and power pop. The line was so thin it would seem to disappear in the rearview mirror, but when Kursaal Flyers were active in the mid-'70s, they were subtly pulled in two different directions. They'd tour on the same circuit as their friends Dr. Feelgood, but they also signed to Jonathan King's company in 1975, then worked with pop impresario Mike Batt after singing to CBS for The Golden Mile in 1976. Batt gave "Little Does She Know" a grandiose arrangement designed to conjure memories of Phil Spector, and it was enough for the single to crack the U.K. Top 20; however, instead of being their breakthrough, it was their only hit.
