Attunement, or the ability to be in tune with yourself and others, is a key interpersonal communication skill for strengthening work relationships and emotional intelligence. It is based on developing your self and the social awareness to manage your emotions and connect with those around you.

In this course, workplace mental health, neurodiversity, and work culture expert Nidhi Tewari, LCSW, explores the foundations of interpersonal neurobiology in order to identify opportunities to better attune to yourself and others. Gather insights on how to audit your interactions at work to pinpoint conversations where you’re able to be more in tune with others, as well as challenging situations where a lack of attunement leads to disregulation or conflict. Along the way, Nidhi outlines practical strategies to build self-awareness and self-regulate. By the end of this course, you’ll be prepared to put these skills into practice to enhance your attunement when communicating with others.

Learning objectives

  • Leverage attunement to improve interpersonal communication, connection, and help your colleagues feel understood and supported.
  • Explain how attunement is a core skill for social perceptiveness.
  • Develop self-awareness skills to identify internal thoughts, emotions, and somatic sensations driving behaviors and make the shift from disconnection to connection.
  • Practice self-regulation skills to manage internal reactions and state, such as 4-7-8 breathing and grounding techniques.

  • Apply phrases that facilitate attuned, empathic communication to connect with colleagues.
