Aim of this book is to present to researchers and engineers a description of the present knowledge on the viscoplasticity of geomaterials, considering the experimental and theoretical aspects and the applications to relevant problems. First, the laboratory tests performed in order to quantitatively assess the theological properties of rocks are illustrated, describing the equipments used in modern rock mechanics laboratories and the proper testing procedures. Part of the presentation is devoted to the description of constitutive creep laws having different degrees of accuracy and complexity. One of the great twentieth-century achievements in the mechanics of fluids was the full elucidation of the physics of shock waves and the later comprehensive development of understanding of how shock waves propagate (i) through otherwise undisturbed fluid and (ii) in interaction either with solid bodies or with independently generated fluid flows. The interaction problems (ii) were soon found to raise some very special difficulties (beginning with the common formation of "Mach stems" in shock-wave reflection) yet they also turned out to possess enormous scientific interest as well as being highly important in practical applications. For all these reasons the appearance of this book on "Interaction of Shock Waves" by one of the world's major contributors to knowledge in that field is most particularly to be welcomed. It covers all those approaches to the subject which have been found fruitful, and most satisfactorily goes into comprehensive detail about each. This book presents both updated and new measurements on water resources from selective pilot areas form the Middle East. Demand for water has become very crucial notably in arid and semiarid regions like in the Middle East. The changing climate and the increased population are the most striking challenges on water resources in this region where the largest part of its territory is dry lands and deserts with minimal precipitation and high evaporation rates, and thus, the average per capita of water does not exceed 25 m3/year. This resulted in developing many studies and researches in different Middle East countries to clearly identify and assess the hydrological characteristics of the available water resources and to explore new resources in order to secure balanced water supply/demand.
