    The Imperial Gift was Britain's offer of aeroplanes and equipment to the Dominions in 1919 to establish air forces. Australia's Gift of 128 aircraft and every conceivable piece of equipment to support an air force arrived in 1920, making it possible the following year to form an independent air service – the Royal Australian Air Force.
