Despite its fame, prodigious production run and long service the Hunter seems to have suffered from a lack of interest as the subject of comprehensive writing.
Francis Mason's book is a decent attempt at setting-down the history and as a result much has been "borrowed'' by more recent books.
In the first ninety or so pages of the book the author describes the troubled gestation of the Hunter in reasonable detail, including the development of the big-bore variants and two-seaters. The second section of the book covers export users, airframe construction and individual aircraft histories.
