Tollhouse was sort of a German supergroup, formed by ex-Birth Control guitarist Dirk Steffens and vocalist Ian Cussick, who also appeared on Steffens' solo album "The Seventh Step", released in 1976. It's a pity this band wasn't given the acclaim it deserved as it showed great promise, even though the sound veered in a more American AOR direction, comparable to Lake.

A varied New-Wave and experimental band and part of a family of Krautrock-related acts from Cologne, Dunkelziffer were formed in 1981 involving members of Phantom Band and musicians that have collaborated in various Can-related solo projects. Their first LP still misses Can's Damo Suzuki, but another world famous musician takes part: Reebop Kwaku Baah, percussionist of Traffic and late Can. Also in 1983, this bunch of musicians founded 'The Unknown Cases' and recorded the hit 'Masimba Bele'.

Out of the ashes of Tomorrow’s Gift, came Release Music Orchestra (RMO for short), who consisted of Tomorrow’s Gift’s remaining nucleus plus wind-instruments player Jacobsen. … Their Jazz Rock resembles much what was then done in Germany, such as Passport, Thirsty Moon, Kraan, Aera, etc. RMO was never a stable group and many line-up changes occurred with keyboardist Rürup remaining the sole original member throughout their 5-album career … Their sound grew, as was often the case in those days, more commercial and streamlined with each new album, sounding more and more like US Fusion Jazz of the late '70s.

Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland worked with Eberhard Schoener for years before their international breakthrough as 'Police'.

During the 1930s, Ruslanova became extremely popular. She became an artist of the state association of musical, variety and circus enterprises in 1933, and performed all over Russia throughout the rest of the decade. When World War II broke out, she ceaselessly toured from one front to another, helping to boost the soldiers' courage with her patriotic songs. Her signature songs were Valenki and Katyusha, written specially for her. After the Battle of Berlin, she performed on the doorsteps of the smouldering Reichstag.

An unusual meeting of minds: German jazz pianist Matthias Frey and Indian pioneering world music percussionist Trilok Gurtu. Surely this is going to be an ethno fusion album then? No, not at all! Seems like Herr Frey had been listening to a lot of John Cage prepared piano works, or maybe Peter Michael Hamel, and Trilok also tends to do as much noise and clatter as he does rhythms! As with "Ohrjazzter" this is Matthias Frey trying to be anything but a jazzer.

Born in Teheran to an old aristocratic family, Deyhim had been exposed to an amazing variety of music: from India, Egypt, Andalusia, and every part of her own country to the African-influenced styles of the south, Saudi Arabian, Kurdish, Afgani, and the immigrant tribes of the central regions. …

Ginos La Bohème was a little place in Berlin Kreuzberg where musicians and squatters used to enjoy Italian cooking, good wine, and a little jam session after midnight. Chef de cuisine was Gino Merendino from Sicily, who started playing accordeon at the age of 14 and played in various Jazz bands all over Europe. Here the style is Folk with some jazzy injections and Italian lyrics.

"Flucht nach vorn" translates to "forward escape." A typical 80s band searching to escape from the Punk era like many others. Unlike many others they did step forward and created a clever mix of Punk, Wave, Industrial & Jazz, with more rhythm than melody. Production comes with a helping hand from Alexander Hacke (Einstürzende Neubauten) – yes, he again.

During the mid-seventies, the Hamburg-based band Novalis established themselves as leaders in the field of German-language romantic rock. Starting with heavily organ-accentued art rock a-la King Crimson (and on their debut, "Banished Bridge", including English lyrics), Novalis later developped their own unique style, a mixture of progressive, classic, folk and rock.

Curlew were formed in 1979 by George Cartwright, who has served as the group's leader, saxophonist, and main composer for nearly three decades. Although Curlew have been viewed as pioneers of New York City's so-called "downtown scene," Cartwright was born in Mississippi and has consistently brought a roadhouse R&B swagger – not to mention the influence of early hero Ornette Coleman to the band's sound. Throughout the '80s and '90s, Curlew served as something of an incubator and showcase for NYC avant jazz and rock talent. …

… Musically a typical example of German seventies rock not unlike their stablemates 'Grobschnitt' and 'Jane' for the harder edge, with guitar and organ jams. … Satin Whale released 'A Whale of Time', a good record, especially the title track, an instrumental with a great string arrangement.
