The album is a specific anthology of unknown Polish mazurkas. Arranged chronologically, they show the evolution of the species over more than 180 years. Mazurek, closely related to oberek and kujawiak, has been danced in Poland since the early Middle Ages. Although it has a rural origin, it strengthened its popularity not only at weddings - during the partitions, composers willingly reached for it for patriotic reasons. The album features works by 29 composers, most of them completely unknown. The names of many of their creators are also hidden in the recesses of music history. The works of the most famous composers of mazurkas - Chopin and Szymanowski - are not represented here. However, echoes of their work can be heard in many compositions. Anna Kijanowska, a Polish-American pianist who plays on several continents, with this album once again proves that mazurkas are extremely close to her; shows their beauty and character in a subtle and balanced style.
