The Battered Bastards of Baseball is a 2014 documentary film that tells the true story of the Portland Mavericks, an independent minor league baseball team that operated in the 1970s. The film was directed by Chapman and Maclain Way, the grandsons of the team's owner, actor Bing Russell. The Mavericks were an unorthodox, non-affiliated team made up of baseball castoffs and misfits who managed to challenge the status quo and find success against the odds.
