Matthias Lingenfelder has always had a special affinity for French music due to his studies in Paris with Gérard Poulet, the son of Gaston, for whom Debussy wrote his violin sonata. Before that, I wanted one last recording with them for the label, as a farewell, no matter what. That didn't materialise. But Matthias still had the desire and energy. And so did Peter! So what could be more obvious than finally realising their long-cherished wish? The result is a serene, mature, confident, virtuoso, sensitive and loving performance of this unconventionally beautiful repertoire.
