    HCLTech has released NESTINGWorks 2025 SP1 is an automatic, true-shape nesting program that quickly creates efficient nested layouts. It is seamlessly integrated within SOLIDWORKS environment and allows nesting of flat or 3D solid or sheet metal parts and assemblies.

    Nesting Parts in DXF File Format using ‘2D DXF Nesting’ Functionality

    Purpose:
    To provide an option to nest one or parts saved in DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) file format using the newly introduced ‘2D DXF Nesting’ functionality within the NESTINGWorks application
    Implementation:
    The previous versions of NESTINGWorks provided functionalities for nesting solid parts, multi-body parts, solid assemblies, sheet metal parts (including folded ones) and sheet metal assemblies. From NESTINGWorks 2025 version onwards, the nesting functionality has been expanded to support nesting of parts saved in DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) file format.
    ‘2D DXF Nesting’ Command
    A new command named 2D DXF Nesting is now available within the NESTINGWorks application to support nesting of file sin DXF format. This command is available within the NESTINGWorks Ribbon Bar as well as the NESTINGWorks menu.

    Pre-requisites for Executing the ‘2D DXF Nesting’ Command
    i. To nest one or more part files in DXF format in a single nesting job, all those files must be present within the same folder location.
    ii. Files in DXF format by design are not assigned any units. However, it is mandatory for the parts to nested to have measurements units so that they can be nested in sheets of pre-defined sizes and shapes. For files in DXF format, the Unit System assigned within the SOLIDWORKS / CAMWorks Solids application will be considered as the unit of measurement for DXF files. Hence, ensure that the correct Unit System is assigned within SOLIDWORKS/ CAMWorks Solids before executing the 2D DXF Nesting command.
    iii. The names of the DXF files to be nested must not contain square brackets [ ] (as it can interfere with the nesting process).
    Executing the ‘2D DXF Nesting’ Command
    Clicking on the 2D DXF Nesting command from the NESTINGWorks ribbon bar or menu will invoke the File Explorer window labelled ‘Select a DXF folder’. Use this explorer to browse and select the folder containing the DXF files to be nested. Click the Select Folder button of the Explorer window after you select the folder containing the DXF files.

    Clicking the Select Folder button will close the File Explorer window and display the 2D DXF Nesting dialog box.

    - The names of all the DXF files present in the selected folder will listed in the PartName column of the Part List grid under the Part Data tab.
    - When you highlight any part listed in the Part List grid, the 2D preview of the part will be displayed in the Part Preview window below the Part List grid.
    - Use the Quantity field to indicate the number of instances for each part to be nested.
    - Use the Material, Grain Direction and Rotation Type fields available under the Part Data tab to assign relevant attributes for each part to be nested.

    Use the parameters and options available under the Sheet Data tab of the 2D DXF Nesting dialog box to add sheets that will be used for nesting the parts. Options are available to add Standard rectangular sheets, custom sized rectangular sheets as well as true-shape sheets saved in DXF format.
    Previewing and Generating Nested Layouts
    Click on the Preview Nest… button at the bottom of the 2D DXF Nesting dialog box to preview the nested layouts. This command will trigger the nesting process and display the Nested DXF Preview window. The left thand side panel labelled Nested DXF Names lists all the sheets containing the nested parts. The nested layouts will be listed in serial order within this panel. Click on the different nested layouts in this panel to preview the nested layouts. Click the OK button within the Nested DXF Preview window to confirm and proceed with generation of the DXF format nested layouts. (If you click the Cancel button, the user interface will revert to the 2D DXF Nesting dialog box.)

    The generated nested layouts in DXF format and the Nest Results Summary (text file) will be saved in a folder named Output within the same folder containing the DXF based Part files to be nested. Use an appropriate software application (like eDrawings) to view the generated nested layouts in DXF format present within this Output folder.
    Bug Fixes in NESTINGWorks 2025 SP1

    1. CWNEST-2346 CSR-28307 CSR-28327 The licensing mechanism for NESTINGWorks fails to recognize the single-user (Standalone) license for NESTINGWorks 2025 SP0 version.
    2. CWNEST-2342 CSR-28156 For the specific Assembly being nested, when the Sheet Forecaster option under the 'Sheet Data' tab of the 'Create Nesting Job' dialog box is checked and 'Nesting Type' is set to 'Optimal Nesting', the nested output shows incorrect sheet thickness.
