Toyohiko Sato's new recording! A new recording by Toyohiko Sato, one of the world's leading lutenists and the pride of Japan, on his own label "Nostalgia". Toyohiko Sato has mainly recorded Baroque music since his encounter with "Lorenz Greif", a rare original Baroque lute from 1611, but this album presents music from the Renaissance. This is a wonderful program with "forgotten pearls", i.e. small, lovely, beautiful and entertaining pieces from the Renaissance period of unknown authorship from European countries. The pieces were originally written for various instruments, such as the 6-, 7-, 8- and 10-course lute and the bihuela. However, this recording does not attach the highest importance to historical performance practice, but allows everyone who plays the lute for pleasure to play some of the pieces on this album, regardless of what kind of Renaissance lute (or bihuela) they own. The idea is that anyone who plays lute for pleasure can play some of the pieces on this album on any kind of Renaissance lute (or bihuela), so only a 10-chored lute is used. Of course, gut strings are used. The booklet contains a special section entitled "The Lute in Painting", which contains various paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries, on which the lute is depicted.
