WaterGEMS simplified – create hydraulic models, perform EPS, fire flow and system optimization with ease

What you'll learn
- Navigate the WaterGEMS interface and set up essential project settings for accurate hydraulic modeling.
- Build a complete water distribution network model from scratch and run steady-state hydraulic analysis.
- Understand and perform Extended Period Simulation (EPS) to analyze system behavior over time.
- Conduct Fire Flow Analysis and interpret whether the network meets required fire demand and pressure conditions.
- Use Darwin Designer to optimize pipe sizes and improve network performance based on cost and pressure constraints.
- Import external data (GIS/CAD) into WaterGEMS, generate professional reports, and calculate water age for system performance evaluation.

Requirements
- A computer/laptop with WaterGEMS installed
- Willingness to learn through practical demonstrations and apply the software hands-on.

Description
This course is made for beginners who want to learn WaterGEMS from the very basics. You don’t need any previous experience with the software. If you know simple concepts of water flow, pressure, pipes and pumps, you are ready to start. We begin with the WaterGEMS interface and basic project settings. Then we create a simple water distribution model from scratch. After that, you will learn how to run Extended Period Simulation (EPS) to see how the system works over time. The course also covers Fire Flow Analysis to check if the network can supply enough water during fire conditions. You will learn both the theory and the actual step-by-step process inside WaterGEMS. Next, we move to Darwin Designer. This tool helps you optimize pipe sizes and find cost-effective solutions. First, the theory is explained and then the real demonstration is shown. You will also learn how to import data from external sources (like CAD or GIS), how to create reports and graphs, and how to calculate water age in the network. By the end of the course, you will be able to build, analyze and improve a complete water distribution model using WaterGEMS. So get ready to dive into the world of Water Distribution networks.

Who this course is for:
- Civil engineering and environmental engineering students who want to learn hydraulic modeling using WaterGEMS.
- Fresh graduates or entry-level engineers working in water supply, urban infrastructure, or consulting firms
- Professionals who know EPANET or basic hydraulics and want to upgrade to WaterGEMS for advanced modeling and automation.
- Government engineers, utility staff, or consultants involved in planning, designing, or analyzing water distribution networks.
- Anyone who wants to start from zero and learn WaterGEMS through practical, step-by-step demonstrations rather than theory alone.
