On Parenthesis, I, Josienne Clarke has not only embraced her past but has also redefined herself in the present, presenting a body of work that is shimmering, warm, intimate, and at times, profoundly heart-wrenching. Throughout her career, Clarke has been both a Rough Trade-signed artist and a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award-winner, two opposing poles that neatly sum up her inability to be pigeonholed. Parenthesis, I is a masterful journey through her personal and musical evolution, drawing influence from folk greats Nick Drake and Sandy Denny, as well as more contemporary artists like Julia Jacklin, Courtney Marie Andrews, Anaïs Mitchell and Lucy Dacus.

Today, indie-folk artist Josienne Clarke has announced her new album Onliness (songs of solitude & singularity) will be released on April 14th, 2023. On her new album, Clarke revisits songs from her back catalogue, a combination of fan favourites as well as hidden gems that have, until now, never had the spotlight she felt they deserved. The first single, out today, is a reworked and re-recorded version of one of her earliest compositions, ‘The Tangled Tree’.

British folk duo Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker began their musical partnership in 2010. Expanding both their sound and approach, 2018's "Seedlings All" introduced light jazzy elements into the tonal mix and was the first of the duo's releases to be made up entirely of Clarke's original material. This is songwriter Clarke's most autobiographical work to date.
