On this follow-up to 2014's "Fragile", composer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist Robert Len continues to enchant with his personal style. Through his warm interpretations on the flugelhorn, trumpet, guitar, flute and the many other instruments he has mastered, blended with his unique approach to cool jazz, Len creates an extraordinary acoustic balance allowing the emotion of his music to shine through.

"Inception" is McCoy Tyner's debut album, released on Impulse! in 1962. His trio members on this session are Art Davis on bass and Elvin Jones on drums, all three working outside the confines of John Coltrane's quartet. Four of the six songs on this recording are Tyner originals; Effendi, the lovely ballad Sunset and the title tune have all been called "standout pieces" by JazzTimes.com.

One of the most individual of all altoists (and one of the few in the 1950s who did not sound like a cousin of Charlie Parker), the cool-toned Lee Konitz has always had a strong musical curiosity, leading him to consistently take chances and stretch himself. This New York session, with Ted Brown, holds some pleasant surprises.

Valery Gergiev conducts a scintillating account of Sergey Rachmaninov's powerful Symphony No 3, often considered to be the composer's most overtly Russian symphony despite being written some two decades after he emigrated to America. Concluding the programme is Mily Balakirev's "Russia", an epic symphonic poem derived from themes collected during an expedition up the Volga river.

Tchaikovsky's early trio of symphonies have long lived in the shadow of the three that followed. Following his acclaimed Mariinsky disc of the final three symphonies, Valery Gergiev conducts outstanding performances of these early works with the London Symphony Orchestra. Tchaikovsky's early symphonies are full of rich expressive melodies something for which he had a natural talent. They contain influences of Russian nationalism and folk tunes, particularly in the second (Little Russian) and the first (Winter Dreams), which hints at a Russian landscape.

"Phonetics" from Paris-based pianist and composer Benoît Delbecq presents an artist at the height of his imaginative and synthesizing powers. Recorded with an international quintet and featuring prepared piano on several tracks, this album showcases Delbecq's broad and deep vision of music, burnished by the audiophile recording. Phonetics was named one of the 12 best records of 2004 ("Choc de l’année") by Jazzman, the leading jazz magazine in France.

This album came out of a series of three recording sessions by Sonny Stitt toward the end of 1959, and sees the jazz saxophonist delve into the world of blues.The album blends powerful original songs written by Stitt with a couple of standards that get new life breathed into them. Stitt plays alto sax exclusively on this release, which led to unfair comparisons at the time to Charlie Parker. This album has been out-of-print and almost impossible to find for many years, until now.

"The Soul of Ben Webster" is an album by American jazz saxophonist Ben Webster featuring tracks recorded in 1958 for the Verve label. This is a blowing session that matches the matchless jazz tenor sax master with fellow tenorist Harold Ashby in a program of loose originals.

The seventh entry in Vasily Petrenko's outstanding sequence of Shostakovich symphonies pairs two works that stand at opposing poles of Shostakovic's creative life but present similar interpretive puzzles. The 2nd Symphony, written to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the October Revolution, begins with music as modernistic as anything Shostakovich ever wrote but ends in a bombastic choral setting of Leninist agitprop poetry. The 15th Symphony, the composer's last, swerves from an almost giddy sense of play to death-haunted musings to a bleak serenity; along the way Shostakovich mixes in enigmatic allusions to Rossini and Wagner. In both pieces, esteem for the music sits alongside bafflement at what these pieces mean, and what they say about the composer's elusive inner life.

Leonard Bernstein conducts the Wiener Philharmoniker for these legendary recordings from 1977-1979 of Ludwig van Beethoven's 9 Symphonies in this Limited Edition SACDs set. A set that in the realism of its engineering, in the poised polished execution of the Vienna Philharmonic, and in the controlled, tasteful vigor of Bernstein's conducting sets standards of Beethoven playing. Despite the age the pairing of Bernstein and the VPO was always quite special and the set has stood the test of time remarkably well, remaining an excellent choice for anybody looking for a Beethoven symphony cycle.

When Jim Davis started producing records at Verve, he changed the company's recording philosophy toward its most prolific instrumentalist. Where Norman Granz had produced countless Oscar Peterson albums dedicated to the popular song, Davis was more interested in making albums closer to how the Peterson trio sounded live. His first Peterson records were the legendary London House sessions. By the time of this album, there had been no personnel change in the trio for five years - so it is no surprise that the rapport among the musicians here is telepathic.

Colorado-based guitarist Janet Feder has developed a highly personal musical language, drawing inspiration from folk, jazz, minimalism, classical, avant-garde and even pop. Since the early nineties she began experimenting with her guitar, preparing it in different tunings, attaching objects to the strings, developing a unique original sound of her own. "T H I S C L O S E", her fifth solo album, is Feder's most fully realized album, featuring nine haunting songs. A native of Boulder, Colorado Janet Feder is most widely known for pioneering composition for prepared guitar. She has been featured on numerous recordings, radio programs, and film scores. Deeply layered, textured and intimate, "Songs With Words", features Janet Feder's prepared guitar compositions accompanying her voice.

Miyuji Kaneko was born in 1989 to a Japanese father and a Hungarian mother. At the age of six, he moved to Hungary alone to study under Zsuzsa Cs. Nagy at the Bartok Elementary School of Music. In 2001 at the age of eleven, he was accepted into the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, skipping grades and studying with professors Gabor Eckhardt, Gyongyi Kevehazi, and Rita Wagner. He has won first prizes in many international music competitions, including the 2008 Bartok International Piano Competition.
