Cooperative Control and Optimization

Cooperative Control and Optimization by Robert Murphey, Panos M. Pardalos
English | PDF | 2002 | 306 Pages | ISBN : 1402005490 | 19.8 MB

A cooperative system is defined to be multiple dynamic entities that share information or tasks to accomplish a common, though perhaps not singular, objective. Examples of cooperative control systems might include: robots operating within a manufacturing cell, unmanned aircraft in search and rescue operations or military surveillance and attack missions, arrays of micro satellites that form a distributed large aperture radar, employees operating within an organization, and software agents. The term entity is most often associated with vehicles capable of physical motion such as robots, automobiles, ships, and aircraft, but the definition extends to any entity concept that exhibits a time dependent behavior. Critical to cooperation is communication, which may be accomplished through active message passing or by passive observation. It is assumed that cooperation is being used to accomplish some common purpose that is greater than the purpose of each individual, but we recognize that the individual may have other objectives as well, perhaps due to being a member of other caucuses.

Variational Theory of Splines

Variational Theory of Splines by Anatoly Yu. Bezhaev , Vladimir A. Vasilenko
English | PDF | 2001 | 291 Pages | ISBN : 0306466422 | 20.5 MB

Th e variational spline theory which originates f rom th e well-known paper by J.e. Holliday (1957) is today a well-developed field in approxi- mat ion theory. The gene ra l definition of splines in the Hilbert space, ex- istence, uniqueness, and characterization theorems were obt ained about 35 years ago by M. Atteia, P.J. L aur ent, and P.M. Anselone, but in rec ent years impor tant new results have been obtained in th e abst ract variational spline theory. Th ese concern the convergence in th e Hilb ert spaces, general techniques for error es tim ation of abs trac t splines includ- ing multi-dimensional splines on scatt ered meshes, new kinds of charac- teriz ation th eorems based on reproducing kernels and m appin gs, and the theory and algorithms for the splines on subspaces (finite element me th od for complic at ed non-polynomial splines). New variatio na l for- mulations arose for vec tor splines, rational splines, te nsor and blending splines, trac es of splines on the smooth manifold, discontinuous splines, etc. Optim al approxi mat ions of linear functionals and ope rat ors are also developed from th ese concepts.

Fractional Calculus: High-Precision Algorithms and Numerical Implementations by Dingyü Xue , Lu Bai
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 413 Pages | ISBN : 9819920698 | 98.9 MB

Fractional calculus and its applications are fascinating research areas in many engineering disciplines. This book is a comprehensive collection of research from the author's group, which is one of the most active in the fractional calculus community worldwide and is the birthplace of one of the four MATLAB toolboxes in fractional calculus, the FOTF Toolbox. The book presents high-precision solution algorithms for a variety of fractional-order differential equations, including nonlinear, delay, and boundary value equations. Currently, there are no other universal solvers available for the latter two types of equations.

Network Calculus: A Theory of Deterministic Queuing Systems for the Internet by Jean-Yves Boudec, Patrick Thiran
English | PDF (True) | 2001 | 280 Pages | ISBN : 354042184X | 4.2 MB

Network Calculus is a set of recent developments that provide deep insights into flow problems encountered in the Internet and in intranets. The first part of the book is a self-contained, introductory course on network calculus. It presents the core of network calculus, and shows how it can be applied to the Internet to obtain results that have physical interpretations of practical importance to network engineers. The second part serves as a mathematical reference used across the book. It presents the results from Min-plus algebra needed for network calculus. The third part contains more advanced material. It is appropriate reading for a graduate course and a source of reference for professionals in networking by surveying the state of the art of research and pointing to open problems in network calculus and its application in different fields, such as mulitmedia smoothing, aggegate scheduling, adaptive guarantees in Internet differential services, renegotiated reserved services, etc.
