1962–1966 (widely known as The Red Album) is a compilation of The Beatles' greatest hits from 1962 to 1966. It was released with 1967–1970 (The Blue Album), a compilation of their greatest hits from 1967 to 1970. 1962–1966 reached #3 in the UK and managed to reach #1 in the U.S. Cashbox albums chart. However, in the U.S. the official chart was administered by Billboard, where 1962–1966 peaked at #3, while 1967–1970 managed to meet the summit. This album was re-released in September 1993 charting at #3 in the UK.

The album was compiled by Beatles manager Allen Klein, with his selections approved by the Beatles themselves. Even though the group had had success with cover versions of songs, most notably with "Twist and Shout", which made #2 on the Billboard charts, only songs composed by The Beatles themselves were included.

When Simon & Garfunkel went out on the road in November of 1969 on what would be their last tour together for 13 years, the duo's popularity rivaled that of The Beatles. They embarked on the tour soon after completing Bridge Over Troubled Water, the album that would be their crowning glory and biggest seller. Bridge wouldn't be released until January 21, 1970, so their sets contained several songs from that album that the fans who packed their shows would be hearing for the first time. Several shows on the '69 tour were recorded in anticipation of what was earmarked to be their sixth album, the follow-up to Bridge. That live album never came to be and Simon & Garfunkel soon ended that early stage of their partnership. At these final shows Simon & Garfunkel gave performances that are as magnificent as any they ever offered. This set contains both acoustic and full band recordings from the tour, including an incredible version of 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' along with inspired versions of all their big hits.

1967–1970 (widely known as The Blue Album) is a compilation of many of The Beatles' most popular tracks from 1967 to 1970. It was released with 1962–1966 (The Red Album), which covered their earlier period. 1967–1970 made #1 on the U.S. Billboard chart and #2 on the U.K. Album Chart. This album was re-released in September 1993 charting at #4 in the UK.

The cover art shows the band once again looking down the stairwell of EMI's Manchester Square headquarters in London; the same pose, camera angle, setting and photographer (Angus McBean) as used for the cover on the Please Please Me and 1962–1966 albums, which used different photos from the same photo session. The image was originally shot for the Get Back album, which later became Let It Be, but in the end the photograph was not used for that project.

LIVE IN NEW YORK is a six-disc collection that contains all four of The Doors’ final tour performances—in their entirety—recorded in 1970 at the Felt Forum in New York City. Recorded January 17 and 18, 1970—just a few weeks before the release of Morrison Hotel—these concerts find Jim Morrison, John Densmore, Robby Krieger, and Ray Manzarek locked in tight as they deliver smoking takes on soon-to-be-classics from their forthcoming album.

Fans will be blown away by the crisp sound found on LIVE IN NEW YORK. All four shows were mixed and mastered by the band’s longtime engineer, Bruce Botnick, who recorded a number of shows from The Doors’ 1970 tour on multi-track tape for the Absolutely Live album. Sadly, these shows represent The Doors’ final New York City performances with Morrison, who passed away July 3, 1971.

An American Prayer is a studio album by rock band The Doors. In 1978, seven years after Jim Morrison died and five years after the remaining members of the band broke up, Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger, and John Densmore reunited and recorded backing tracks over Morrison's poetry (originally recorded in 1969 and 1970). Other pieces of music and spoken word recorded by the Doors and Morrison were also used in the audio collage, such as dialogue from Morrison's film HWY and snippets from jam sessions. The album received mixed reviews and still divides critics, yet it has managed a platinum certification in the US, placing it roughly as high in US sales as most of the Doors' studio albums (only The Doors and L.A. Woman are so far multi-platinum). —Wikipedia

Unlike many a box-set retrospective, this 1997 four-CD collection is clearly tailored for Doors aficionados rather than those curious but not overly familiar with the legendary '60s band's career and oeuvre. The first three discs are filled with previously unreleased live tracks and other rarities, such as the band's early demos, which found them slowly building a foundation stemming from each member's clear strengths and influences: Manzarek's classical background, Densmore's jazz, Krieger's rock, and Morrison's blues. Disc 4 features "band favorites" rather than hits, per se, and thus continues the insider tone taken by the compilation. Once you're inside, though, the rewards are many. —Billy Altman, Amazon.com
