The story follows Mick, a young man arriving from New York to visit his girlfriend Geri Sanders. Upon arrival, he finds the roads flooded and the town without power. Initially, Mick's concerns about strange happenings and disappearing locals are dismissed by the skeptical Sheriff. As the night progresses, the worm attacks intensify, trapping Mick, Geri, and her family in their house as the worms attempt to break in. They must fight for survival against the overwhelming number of the writhing creatures, which ultimately leads to a terrifying climax involving one character having worms burrow into his face.
