This publication contains the recording of Omega's concert held in the Kisstadion on August 19, 1977. A wonderful and extremely important document from the period when Omega was at the height of its career. In 1976-77, The Time Robber played all over Europe. Their concert program also focused on the material from the Időrabló album, only looking back to a few songs from their previous album, Nem tijum a nevedig. The mood of the performance was elevated throughout, Omega's playing was perfectly mature and dynamic - from the Overture to the encore. János Karácsony, guitarist of LGT, drummer Csaba Debreczeni, and the singing trio Cini and Tinik participated in the concert. This recording was not edited by Magyar Rádió in its program at the time, fans were only able to hear it in 1991. The cut version of the concert was available on CD in a limited edition boxed edition, but the classical material can be heard in its entirety for the first time on this edition.

4th Omega album, containing new, for that time, songs recorded live.
The first Hungarian hard rock album, "Élő Omega", is 50 years old! On this occasion, a special gift box was released to the delight of Omega fans. 4 CDs, a picture book and the insert of the original sound record were included in the exclusive-looking, metallic-covered box.
The first disc is the same as the regular release, containing the remastered original album and 4 songs from the two singles associated with the disc.
The second CD contains the raw mix of the album from 1972. In addition to not containing audience noise, this audio differs from the original mix…

1982, hard times for prog and, like many other bands then, Omega changed their sound. Not only because of fashion - Omega musicians were seriously keen on computer technologies. As a result the album has obvious new wave sound, almost nothing reminds here of Omega's space-rock from the 70's.

Omega's 10th album "Az Arc" (The Face) is a departure form their 70's Symphonic-progressive Rock. The music is harder with grungy guitars, stomping drums, heavy bass and keyboards.( I found the keyboard sound the weakest element of this album due to it's "modern rock/new wave" influenced experimental sound. It comes accross skimpy at times, like playing a little toy keyboard.) Other wise, it is a very good album, mature and focused with somewhat political and philosophical lyrics about the fear of growing old, politics of everyday life and the lack of personal and artistic freedom.

Finally, with their eighth Hungarian album Omega reached the peak of their space/prog achievements. Forget about the cover image where the band members wear horrible glittering garment in the vein of ABBA or Bee Gees! Just listen to the music. Production is very good and probably for the first time Omega knew how to make a strong album without often poor heavy rock fillers. The opening notes of Nytany with Beethoven's 5th suggests more symphonic influences than on earlier albums. Benko's keyboards are excellent and provide rich sound palette and space/psychedelic sensation, while Molnar shows that he knows how to add tasty and effective guitar solo spices…

The six album "Nem Tudom a Neved" is an important release in band's career, a transition from more straight rock oriented sound to their most progressive period. Like most Omega albums it shows band's ability to create nice memorable melodies.
The most successful Hungarian rock band in history, Omega is one of the rare bands to have been known outside in his country. The legend has it that as albums were released in other countries it became necessary to brake the language barrier. Their music is a combination of Eastern European prog with a bit of symphonic and a bit of psyche prog. The result is a dark orchestrated sound combined with extended improvisation. Their discography actually starts in the early 60's, and goes in till today in a more modern register.

The seventh Hungarian release marks the attempt of Omega to shift their sound into more space-rock defined style. However, the attempt appears to be only partially successful.

Debut Hungarian album of Omega is a curious early release of the band where they acted as Hungary's answer to The Beatles. Mixing psychedelic and beat pop with hints of folk, this album only shows the bits of what would later follow.

The second Hungarian album is much better than the amateurish debut, but the sound and style of the band is still not fully developed. Traces of psychedelic pop beat in "Petróleum lámpa" are being ever more informed by the burgeoning heavy rock guitar and organ riffs in "Túzvihar". The best compositions, the all-time favourite love ballad "Györgyhajú lány" (shamelessly copied and plagiarised by many, including the German metal legends Scorpions) and the powerfull, with excellent solo guitar, heavy stomping title track ("Ten Thousand Steps" in English), are at the same time the most progressive ones. The gatefold cover desing is very good showing the legacy of psychedelia.

Omega was not only very successful behind the Iron Curtain but also had a large following in the West at that time, as they recorded their albums in English for the international market, especially in the 1970s. "Time Robber", "The Hall Of Floaters In The Sky" and "Gammapolis" are classics of progressive rock today, all of them were created under the direction of Peter Hauke in Frankfurt / Main. It was also Hauke who brought the band back into the studio in 1981 to record another English-language album called "Working". The album consisted mainly of tracks from the Hungarian album "Az arc", which was made in the same year. The songs were translated into English with the help of Tony Carey. Another masterpiece came about with “Working”, as well as Omega's last English-language album up to 1996.

Best known as the keyboard wizard of the venerable Hungarian rock band Omega, the solo work of Laszlo Benko is by comparison virtually unknown beyond the confines of Eastern Europe. A curious offering of keyboard based electronic music, it can be likened at times to some of Tangerine Dream's mid-seventies material such as Rubycon or Ricochet albeit with a more light-hearted, zany touch much more along the lines of Kraftwerk minus the vocals or even some of Vangelis' seventies work. Prefering shorter formats rather than longer multi-dimensional compositions favoured by many progressive electronic artists, it is worth a brief glimpse into his musical contributions and developments within Omega in order to better introduce his solo work.

200 Years After The Last War (1974) only shares the title track, a metaphoric piece about birth control in a totalitarian system, with the original legendary banned Hungarian version "200 évvel az utolsó háború után". The almost 20- minute "suite" on side A, originally released on OMEGA 5 in 1973, combines various influences from which the Hungarians developed their own style at the time: Blues, early Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple.
