Bluesman L.C. Good Rockin’ Robinson (1914-1976) gained his nickname for his musical showmanship. Born in Texas, Robinson moved to the San Francisco Bay area after World War II to play local clubs with his brother A.C. This release is drawn from three separate recording sessions, two in 1971 and one in 1975. The first session included musicians from Muddy Waters’ band ("Pinetop" Perkins on piano and Charlie Musselwhite on harmonica), whereas in the second session Robinson was accompanied by the Dave Alexander (Omar Sharriff) Trio. The third session was a Thanksgiving Day radio broadcast with Robinson playing fiddle.
Mojo In My Hand is a superlative retrospective of L.C. Good Rockin' Robinson's music, spotlighting his impressive multi-instrumental skills.

Not only does the box select highlights from classic albums like Luxury Liner, Roses in the Snow, and Blue Kentucky Girl, but it also features her early duets with Gram Parsons and selections from the Trio album she recorded with Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt. Portraits doesn't dwell too long on unreleased material – there are only five unearthed tracks on the entire set – preferring to sketch out a full overview of her career. While there might be a few favorite tracks missing, the box nevertheless fulfills its goals quite nicely – anyone looking for a comprehensive compilation of Emmylou's career will not be disappointed.

With her trademark leather jump suit, instantly hooky songs, and big bass guitar, Suzi Quatro is a glam rock icon with a window-rattling voice and rock & roll attitude to spare. After getting her start in garage and hard rock bands, 1973's breakthrough single "Can the Can," a stomping blast of glam rock that combined '50s-style song craft with Quatro's powerful vocals, made her an international star. She followed up with a string of similar-sounding singles and albums – and made an impression on TV viewers with her role on the hit sitcom Happy Days – before softening her sound and scoring a hit with the 1978 ballad "Stumblin' In." While her work in the future would encompass everything from new wave pop on 1983's Main Attraction to starring in a musical based on the life of Tallulah Bankhead in 1991, Quatro never lost her instincts as a rocker, as evidenced by albums like 2006's Back to the Drive and 2021's The Devil in Me.

Following Eric Clapton's recovery from heroin addition in 1974 and subsequent comeback (announced by 461 Ocean Boulevard), the guitar legend retained his fine band and toured extensively, and this live album is a souvenir of that period. Despite having such pop-oriented hits as "I Shot the Sheriff," E.C. Was Here makes it clear that Clapton was and always would be a blues man…

This tribute album breaks no new ground but does a superb job of re-creating the Chicago ensemble sound, as well as the songs, of the latter-day Muddy Waters Band. That comes as no surprise, since the core group here literally was Muddy Waters' backup unit from 1974 to 1980: Bob Margolin and Luther "Guitar Jr" Johnson on guitars, Pinetop Perkins on piano, Jerry Portnoy on harp, Calvin Jones on bass, and Willie Smith on drums. Each of these Muddy alumni takes a vocal turn (Margolin takes two). While none of them matches the majesty of Muddy's voice, they certainly have the spirit of the thing down pat.
