Cell Cycle Control

Cell Cycle Control

Cell Cycle Control by Michele Pagano
English | PDF | 1998 | 237 Pages | ISBN : 3662216957 | 26 MB

Leafing through a journal of biology will almost certainly turn up several arti cles on some aspect of the eukaryotic cell division cycle. The progress in un derstanding the modus operandi of the cell cycle machinery and its central role in controlling cell proliferation has awakened a great deal of interest in many biologists. However, the cell cycle field often seems unnecessarily complicated, perhaps because data are acquired in bits and pieces and almost all simultane ously from studies using different systems and organisms. The aim of this book is to make the background of the cell cycle field as unambiguous and clear as possible by distinguishing what is commonly accepted in the field from what are the unsolved problems. Therefore, this book is intended to serve a large au dience: graduate and postgraduate students, basic and clinical scientists in volved in the study of cell growth, differentiation, senescence, apoptosis, and cancer. My hope is that this book will stimulate further interest in the fascinat ing field of the cell cycle and help scientists find connections between this and their fields of interest. This book brings together experts to review all major aspects of the eukary otic cell division cycle. The cell cycle is a coordinated and highly regulated series of events during which the cell replicates its DNA, and then divides.

Tutorials in Mathematical Biosciences: III Cell Cycle, Proliferation, and Cancer by Avner Friedman
English | PDF(True) | 2006 | 254 Pages | ISBN : 3540291628 | 9.57 MB

This volume introduces some basic mathematical models for cell cycle, proliferation, cancer, and cancer therapy. Chapter 1 gives an overview of the modeling of the cell division cycle. Chapter 2 describes how tumor secretes growth factors to form new blood vessels in its vicinity, which provide it with nutrients it needs in order to grow. Chapter 3 explores the process that enables the tumor to invade the neighboring tissue. Chapter 4 models the interaction between a tumor and the immune system. Chapter 5 is concerned with chemotherapy; it uses concepts from control theory to minimize obstacles arising from drug resistance and from cell cycle dynamics. Finally, Chapter 6 reviews mathematical results for various cancer models.

Mitochondria and Cell Death

Mitochondria and Cell Death by David M. Hockenbery
English | PDF | 2016 | 240 Pages | ISBN : 1493936107 | 6.4 MB

This volume examines the role of mitochondria in different types of cell death, including apoptotic and necrotic cell deaths. Topics discussed include mitochondrial outer membrane permeabilization (MOMP) and the permeability transition pore; core processes such as calcium handling, fission and fusion, reactive oxygen species generation, and maintenance of mitochondrial DNA fidelity and protein folding homeostasis; and retrograde signaling between mitochondria and other cellular components, including the important role of mitochondria in antiviral immunity.
