Stockbroker on Wall Street on behalf of Sherman McCoy, a wealthy and proud of its social status of men, living an ordered family life with his very attractive wife of one of the fashionable districts of New York. This, however, does not prevent him from having a mistress on the side (her name is Maria). At the request of Mary Sherman, a secret from his wife, taking her in his car home from the airport. Losing road orientation, Sherman and Maria unexpectedly find themselves in the South Bronx - New York area, where they live, mostly poor African-Americans. In a dark alley, they stumble upon a car tire lying on the road. Coming out of the car, Sherman tries to eliminate the obstacle, but at this point Sherman and Maria noticed an African American whose intentions they perceive as hostile. With fear, Mary runs into a car on the African-American teenager, with the result that he dies.
