Sicilia, 1961. L'ufficiale dei Carabinieri Bellodi, parmense ed ex partigiano, in servizio in un piccolo paese, si trova ad indagare sull'omicidio di Salvatore Colasberna, un impresario edile, ucciso per essersi rifiutato di lasciare un appalto ad una ditta protetta della mafia. L'omicidio è avvenuto nelle vicinanze dell'abitazione dove vivono Rosa Nicolosi, il marito e la loro figlioletta. Nella stessa mattina scompare anche il marito di Rosa Nicolosi.

Il capitano Bellodi riesce a strappare a Rosa che il marito le ha detto prima di sparire di aver incontrato lungo la strada,in cui ha avuto luogo l'omicidio "Zecchinetta" (il soprannome deriva dalla passione per l'omonimo gioco), un suo conoscente già pregiudicato, il cui nome viene confermato dal confidente di polizia "Parrinieddu". Nel frattempo il boss del paese, Don Mariano Arena, organizza una manovra per far passare l'omicidio Colasberna come dovuto a motivi passionali: praticamente sarebbe stato Nicolosi ad uccidere l'impresario in quanto amante della moglie e poi si sarebbe dato alla latitanza. Il capitano non crede alla pista passionale e cerca di trovare il corpo del Nicolosi, che ritiene essere stato ucciso in quanto testimone «scomodo»; riuscirà a trovare un corpo ma sarà quello di "Parrinieddu", ucciso perché ritenuto ormai compromesso. L'inchiesta andrà avanti arrivando anche all'arresto di Don Mariano ma alla fine, grazie agli agganci politici di quest'ultimo, i mafiosi torneranno liberi e Bellodi verrà trasferito.

Il giorno della civetta è un film denuncia - drammatico del 1968 diretto da Damiano Damiani, interpretato da Franco Nero e Claudia Cardinale, tratto dall'omonimo romanzo di Leonardo Sciascia.
La pellicola, girata a Partinico, si è avvalsa di un grande cast internazionale, con attori del calibro di Lee J. Cobb, Serge Reggiani e Nehemiah Persoff. Negli Stati Uniti d'America, il film fu distribuito nel 1970 con il titolo The Day of the Owl.

English Synopsis
In a small town, early on a Saturday morning, a bus is about to leave the small square to go market in the next town nearby. A gunshot is heard and the figure running for the bus is shot twice in the back, with what is discovered as a lupara (a sawn-off shotgun that the mafia use for their killings.)The passengers and bus driver deny having seen the murderer.

A Carabinieri captain from Parma, Bellodi, gets on the case, ruffling feathers in his contemporaries and colleagues alike. Soon he discovers a link that doesn't stop in Sicily, but goes onwards towards Rome and the Minister Mancuso and Senator Livigno.

It seems that the man shot, Salvatore Colasberna, was the owner of a small construction company. He had been warned that he should take "protection" from mafia members, but he refused. Although his company was only a very small one, the local mafia decides to make an example of him and has him killed.
Using faintly corrupt methods, Bellodi traps one man and uses the names given by a dead informer to trap another, who has money stashed away in many bank accounts that add up to more than his fallow fields would ever bring. He is attempting to take down an organization with many members involved in the police and government, and whose mere existence many Sicilians deny.He has ignored the crime passionel lead, which is often a handy excuse for mafia killings.

The death of an eyewitness leads to the collapse of the case against all three, which sees Bellodi taken off the case. The novel ends with Bellodi recounting his time in Sicily to his friends in Parma (who think that it all sounds very romantic), and thinking that he would return to Sicily even if it killed him.
The Day of the Owl (Italian: Il giorno della civetta) is a crime novel about the Mafia by Leonardo Sciascia, finished in 1960 and published in 1961.
As the author wrote in his preface of the 1972 Italian edition, the novel was written at a time in which the existence of the Mafia itself was debated and denied. Its publishing led to widespread debate and to renewed awareness of the phenomenon. The novel is inspired by the assassination of Accursio Miraglia, a communist trade unionist, at Sciacca in January 1947. Damiano Damiani directed a movie adaptation in 1968. Sciascia used this story as refutation against the Mafia and the corruption, apparent to his eyes, that led all the way to Rome.From Wikipedia

Recovery Volumes (.rev)
Recovery volumes or .rev files are special files which can be created by WinRAR/RAR and allow you to reconstruct missing and damaged files in a volume set. They can
only be used with multi-volume archives.
This feature may be useful for backups or, for example, when you post a multivolume archive to a newsgroup and some of the subscribers did not receive some files. Reposting recovery volumes instead of usual volumes may reduce the total number of files to repost.
Each recovery volume is able to reconstruct one missing RAR volume. For example, if you have 30 volumes and 3 recovery volumes, you are able to reconstruct any 3 missing volumes. If the number of .rev files is less than a number of missing volumes, reconstructing is impossible. The total number of usual and recovery volumes must not exceed 255 and the number of recovery volumes must be less than the number of RAR volumes.
WinRAR reconstructs missing and damaged volumes either when clicking on .rev file, or when using rc command or automatically, if it cannot locate the next volume and finds the required number of .rev files when unpacking.
You may use the "Recovery volumes" option in the Archive name and parameters dialog or a similar option also appears in the Protect archive command to create recovery volumes. In the command line mode you may do it with -rv switch or rv command.
Original copies of damaged volumes are renamed to *.bad before reconstruction. For example, volname.part03.rar will be renamed to volname.part03.rar.bad.
