Bikel, an important figure in the Hungarian government, defects to the West and asks asylum. To prove his loyalty and sincerity, he is made to return to Hungary and bring out a scientist who also wishes to defect. Safely back in England, an attempt is made to assassinate Bikel. His life is saved and he is given asylum at last. Decent cold war drama mostly carried by Bikel's skillful performance.
