The soundtrack has been written specially for this DVD edition by Dutch Jazz pianist Jasper van't Hof. If you thought you knew all about Jasper van't Hof, here's some more. But where to start with all the stories connected to this film?
Let's try going backwards:
A biography of the photographer Tina Modotti was released in 2005 by Zweitausendeins (= 2001) in Germany, already very rare and expansive today, and with the book came this DVD as a supplement. The music to this silent film was composed by Jasper van't Hof and played on piano. But the most interesting part takes Tina Modotti, she was of Italian origin, lived in USA, Mexico, Italy, Germany, Russia, Spain, and again Mexico, where she died aged 42, supposedly being killed. She started as an actress in Hollywood, then became a revolutionary (nudes) photographer in Mexico, was a friend of Frida Kahlo, next became a Stalinist communist, was a communist agent in the Spanish Civil War … her life was a true political crime plot, worth another movie. Her photographies are sold for thousands of Dollars today.
