The Seven Wonders are seven famous works of art and antiquity, which were collected in different lists. Today's standard catalog of the seven wonders of the world goes back to the Greek writer Antipater of Sidon from the 2nd Century BC back. This is not the oldest canon, but the slightly modified second-oldest World Series miracle. The Colossus of Rhodes was completed around the year 290 BC after 12 years of construction to honor the patron Helios. The cast bronze statue of the god, however, collapsed already 66 years after its completion. The Temple of Artemis is the powerful reconstruction of past destroyed smaller temples to honor the goddess Artemis, whose idol in that place supposedly fell from Heaven. The statue of Zeus by Phidias at a height of nearly 13 m was in a temple built by Libon on the Peloponnese peninsula. The cult statue in honor of Zeus was on a blue-gray limestone base.
