Would you leave friends and family to voluntarily work in a war zone? Each and every day international security contractors in Iraq run a gauntlet of hidden dangers as they carry out critical missions to safeguard the Iraqi reconstruction effort and protect V.I.P.s. The conflict in Iraq has led to an enormous growth in the security business. Private contractors are hired to perform seemingly mundane but definitely dangerous tasks - jobs that were once the exclusive responsibility of the military. But insurgents don't distinguish between civilian contractors and coalition forces.

We ride along with Phil Armstrong and his team from British company Hart Security as they travel to the militia hotbed of Taramiyah. Their nightly mission to deliver construction materials for the new police station frequently comes under fire, and this trip is no exception. We travel Iraq's battle scarred highways with Welshman Lee McClellan as he dodges danger to deliver medical supplies for the U.S. army. Escorting a convoy of trucks, Lee adheres to the contractors' rules of motion - never stop, because when you do you become an easy target. We join 47-year-old Steve Finlayson and his partner Pete Hayes as they ferry businessmen through Baghdad, undercover in order to avoid detection by the insurgents. We witness specialized tactics designed to protect lives of their clients as well as their own.

To a large degree the public first took notice of civilian contractors a few years ago - after the tragic deaths of four Blackwater USA employees in the city of Falluja. Their bodies were savagely mutilated. Since then the dangers have only continued to increase. More than 100 private security contractors have died on the job, victims of I.E.D.s and deadly ambushes.

Armed to the teeth the contractors move through the Iraqi roads, often appearing like characters from the movie 'The Road Warrior'. Critics believe contractors simply add to the already chaotic situation in Iraq, a country on the verge of civil war. In Iraq private security contractors are constantly on alert, aware of their grim reality where every mission could be their last.
