This is a strange one. After failing to climax during her first sexual experience, Val, a Spanish-French twenty-something played by Belen Fabra, egged on by her dying grandmother who wishes she spent her whole life fucking, decides that she will spend her whole life fucking. But when it’s clear the guyz can’t keep up with her insatiable demands she decides to pursue a trad square life. The film, directed by Christian Molina and adapted by Cuca Canals from a novel by Valerie Tasso, is tonally all over the place, vacillating between late-night-cable Euro sex film and Lifetime melodrama. One minute she’s having her Arab fuck buddy bang her with a Coke bottle, the next she’s a young Spanish Julia Roberts complaining to her mousy yet oh-so-supportive coworker about men these days. The entire second act is a the-dream-turned-into-a-nightmare Oprah confessional.

I spent significant parts of the movie dumbfounded at the choices the filmmakers made, but on the other hand, you have to admire a team that piles on so many cliches and plays them straight. (I shouldn’t have been surprised when she took a job at the high-class brothel but I was.) On top of the kooky plot, there’s the music video sex scenes, corny flashbacks, and plenty of you-go-girl validation. But hey, Fabra gives it her all and manages to generate some heat, so that ain’t nothin’. Perhaps amused is the more appropriate state of mind to watch this film.

This movie is realistic, cruel, provocative and sexy but at the same time so very elegant and pure. Belen Fabra is a wonderful actress who is one hundred percent suitable for the role and she is the reason I liked this movie so much. She gives a magical sense to it. She makes you feel whatever she feels. The directing is unique and although the movie presents a lot of "raw material", for some reason,it is so delicate and sophisticated. It's not an other (soft) porn movie, it is a movie which conveys some of the greatest values in life and presents them in a way we have not been used to seeing. This is what makes it so special. I strongly recommend it to mature and open-minded audiences, with a hard stomach.

I absolutely loved this movie. With time it'll become a masterpiece of female empowerment. A taboo subject treated tastefully, the execution of the movie is excellent, the script, the settings, the photography, the art, the music, the direction, everything is done very well. But, I must say Belen's performance is flawless, she mainly had all the responsibility of the movie on her shoulders, and she delivers a brilliant performance. As Valeria Tasso said: "The most difficult and wonderful dress a woman wears is the nudity and Belen wears it with dignity, honor and attitude".

This film is absolutely thought and action provoking, I'm very glad films like this are being presented, specially in Spanish, where in name of the "religion and decency" the nymphomaniac is still something that is valid. This movie presents a portrait of a woman who looks for love in all the wrong places, she wants intimacy and she looks for it through sex, she ends up in toxic relationships that put even her life in danger. And, until she finds herself and learns to love and accept herself, she finds peace with who she is, and from that moment she doesn't care if she's called a nymphomaniac. I think this concept of "nymphomaniac" is vanishing, is pointless, the sexual pleasure of a woman is a birth right, of course we have to enjoy this right with responsibility, and with love and respect to ourselves and demand that from our partners.

I think this movie is a must see for every woman, may be we don't agree with everything, and of course you have to see it with an open mind, sadly, it's easier to judge than to understand, but it's an excellent movie, and it has become one of my favorities. I highly recommend it!!
