Step7 MicroWin è l'ambiente di sviluppo che permette di programmare tutte le CPU della famiglia Simatic S7 200, inoltre consente anche la programmazione di pannelli testuali come TD200, Td200C, Td100C e il nuovissimo TD400C, oltre alla configurazione di tutti i possibili moduli di ampliamento.

Questo sistema di programmazione è molto intuitivo da utilizzare, grazie ad un layout grafico simile a molti altri programmi di comune uso, quindi si diventa subito famigliari con tutte le sue opzioni.

MicroWin è dotato anche di configuratori automatici e tool di test proprio per le operazioni più complesse, non resta quindi che realizzare solo una piccola parte dell'applicazione.

Anche il tool di programmazione a distanza di CPU è integrato direttamente come interfaccia di programmazione di MicroWin, quindi è possibile utilizzare questo ambiente, sia fisicamente connesi alla CPU sia tramite comunicazioni telefoniche, GSM o analogiche.
