Skip James - Yola My Blues Away
Blues | MP3 320 Kbps | Single file with cue sheet | 99 MB | Recorded 1931 | Reissued 2009
Skip James was one of the great early blues players. "Devil Got My Woman", "Hard Time Killing Floor Blues", "I'm So Glad" and "22-20 Blues" (later covered by Robert Johnson) are some of the greatest songs ever made using the blues idiom. This album has the complete collection of his recordings from the 1930's.
We were lucky enough that Skip James was rediscovered and recorded many of his songs again in the 1960's using much more modern recording equipment. In spite of this, you'll find some of the 1960's recordings lack in power and instrumental virtuosity what they gain in clarity.
This recording is special for this reason. Pristine Audio have done a fantastic job cleaning up as much noise as possible from these early recordings. They haven't created a perfectly clear recording, but considering many of the tracks had to be transferred from the only known record of the song, it's amazing how well they've done.
