Mad Curry was one of the first progressive bands from Belgium - along with Laurelie, Waterloo & Irish Coffee. In addition they had a quite remarkable lineup for a rock band, with saxophone, Hammond organ, bass, drums and vocals, but no guitar - just like Van Der Graaf Generator. Soon after their debut single (also included here), in 1970 their eponymous (and now very rare and expensive) LP was housed in a very original fold-out poster cover and released on local Pirate's label. That excellent record was characterized by an attractive female voice (quite similar to Julie Driscoll and Carol Grimes), repeated time signatures and jazzy, underground feeling. This CD is necessary purchase for the fans of early Colosseum, Blodwyn Pig, Julian’s Treatment and Rare Bird.

Mad Curry, what a great unnoticed band from Belgium. One album released by the band in 1970 selftitled and then disappeared. Heavy prog with psychedelic and progressive rock elements added gives a very unique atmosphere overall. Having a really strong and very pleasent voice Viona Westra is the cherry on the cake here. The instrumental passages are no less intristing then the voice and keeps on a high level here, very nice passages with sax , keybords added in the mix to give a very pleasent listen from start to finish, just listen to the unusual and turbulent piece Music, The Reason Of Our Happiness, fantastic tune. Not a weak moment here for sure, Jack is away is another worthy listen, Big Ben and in the end all pieces have a really good mood and offers a lot. I like lot this album, nice cover art aswell. Very unnoticed band from early movement of prog and psychelic zone who needs a far better view. Jazzy interplays here and there goes hand in hand with the heavy psych arrangements, nice. The album was re releasd by Japan 2000 Demand as a CD-R bootleg as far as I know. So, a recommended album, very nice to be discovered or re discovered by many listners as possible,to me is one of my fav albums from early '70's and in general, very similar with french Sandrose or early dutch Earh & Fire. 4 stars easy and great cover art.

Excellent band: an authentic jewel from Belgium. Its style is fabulous, because it incredibly combines the jazz with the early progressive rock: beautiful organ, great voice, calm and melodic, great structure in the Rythihm: I love the piece "Music the reason of…" to me is excellent, with wonderful scales and nice sounds. If you like bands like Soft Machine, Burning Red Ivanohe, Tonton Macoute or East Of Eden, Mad Curry will please to you.

Don't you just love it when you come across one of those obscure progressive rock albums and be totally blown away! Well Mad Curry is that group for me! They're a Belgian band, as far as I can tell, the earliest band from that country playing this kind of music, predating the likes of Machiavel by many years. But Mad Curry is nothing like Machiavel, in fact I hear constant comparisons to Soft Machine and Julian's Treatment. The band featured a female vocalist (Viona Westra), as well as a saxist and organist, but no guitarist. Viona Westra's vocals remind me of Curved Air's Sonja Kristina, although you can hear a slight accent. The musicians often went by second names, for example saxist Giorgio Chitschenko was also known as Joosk Geeraerts, I guess the band adopted Dutch names including the members with French names (this is Belgium after all, where the northern half speak a Flemish variant of Dutch, and the southern half, a Walloon variety of French, and I guess the band did not want to alienate any part of the country). Anyways, this is music I highly recommend to all fans of Soft Machine, Julian's Treatment, Curved Air and Affinity, in fact, I really have to say this album would not have been out of place on the Vertigo label at the time (but this being Belgium, it had to be on a small label). I really love the jazzy drumming from Eddy Kane, plus all the tricks the band throws in. This is truly great stuff and I'm glad I found out about this group!
